Have you ever heard of the book, "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill? Well, you're about to. It is THE book to read if you want to get self-help and learn enlightening lessons on how to open your mind to a new way of thinking. Perhaps, a way you never thought of before. And that's ok! I talk about the book, "Think and Grow Rich", certainly, but I also find the author, Napoleon Hill very interesting as well. His passion and drive are on every page he has written and the best thing about it is that you can use this book in every area of your own life. It's true! Wealth, health, relationships, family matters, etc. etc. As Napoleon once said, “Our only limitations are those we set up in our own minds” - Napoleon Hill Thank you for listening. I hope you enjoy the episode! Go to: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/stephlee This technique and all the topics I talk about take tenacity and a desire to see yourself living your best life right now and that is exactly what will make great things happen. Whatever you do, don't give up and always believe that the impossible is not impossible. It is only your thinking that makes it so. To have a more productive life in this ever-changing world listen to this episode. Get your dreams, desires, and results that you want. It's easy once you have the 411. *And no matter what, always remember what I've always said about this world, "Everything has to do with Everything." The simplest innocuous activity you do will affect another person, and maybe that other person is across the street, in another city, on the other side of the globe, OR not even born yet. The implications of your actions weigh heavy on you. At the beginning of this year, 2021, I challenged myself using the great number seven. Do your very own seven-day challenge. The number seven is great for attracting things to you! Involve the number seven as much as you can because the number seven invokes that great law of the universe, The Law of Attraction. 1. Think of seven actions you can take and do that action for seven minutes/days/weeks. The more you involve the number seven the better it gets. 2. Make an affirmation whether it be a word or a sentence that's positive and write that affirmation seven times a day for seven days. 3. Sit quietly for seven minutes (set your timer) and think of what you want and/or how you see yourself in this world receiving what you want, pretending that you already have it. Make sure it's a good thing. Do this for seven days. 4. Do a creative and exciting action that is going to move you closer to your goal. For me, I want to be a successful podcaster in my genre so I will do an episode every day for seven days. 5. Make it fun and not a chore. 00:00:04.160 --> 00:00:07.799
will improve your life. Growing Uncomfortable with Stephanie Lee starts

3
00:00:07.919 --> 00:00:14.359
right now. Now, Hello, this is Stephanie and this is

4
00:00:14.400 --> 00:00:19.000
Growing Uncomfortable. You know what, I am growing uncomfortable every

5
00:00:19.079 --> 00:00:22.359
day and every way. As a matter of fact, I

6
00:00:22.399 --> 00:00:25.160
would even go as far as to say every day,

7
00:00:25.559 --> 00:00:29.160
in every way, I am getting better and better. And

8
00:00:29.239 --> 00:00:32.960
so are you. If you are growing uncomfortable, if you

9
00:00:33.000 --> 00:00:36.000
are getting out of that comfortable situation that you don't like,

10
00:00:36.520 --> 00:00:41.079
you are growing uncomfortable. And that's what I want for you.

11
00:00:41.799 --> 00:00:44.759
If you are a new listener here at Growing Uncomfortable,

12
00:00:44.840 --> 00:00:47.119
I want to welcome you and thank you so much

13
00:00:47.119 --> 00:00:50.000
for tuning in. I hope that you enjoyed this episode.

14
00:00:50.799 --> 00:00:56.880
So now everybody, get your favorite drink, gather around, sit down, relax,

15
00:00:57.520 --> 00:01:02.759
listen and enjoy this episode on one of my favorite subjects,

16
00:01:03.320 --> 00:01:08.439
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Now you may

17
00:01:08.480 --> 00:01:10.719
have noticed that I have been doing a couple of

18
00:01:10.760 --> 00:01:14.599
biographies lately, and I do them for one reason, and

19
00:01:14.680 --> 00:01:18.040
one reason only because I have learned from them. I

20
00:01:18.159 --> 00:01:21.719
have learned that people go through hard times and do

21
00:01:22.000 --> 00:01:26.959
difficult things and still they succeed. And so I want

22
00:01:27.040 --> 00:01:31.519
to give you some examples of people that have succeeded,

23
00:01:31.560 --> 00:01:34.760
that have become successful at what they wanted to do

24
00:01:35.120 --> 00:01:39.519
and to be and to have. And that's what we're

25
00:01:39.560 --> 00:01:43.000
doing right now today. Well, I am going to talk

26
00:01:43.120 --> 00:01:46.200
about the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.

27
00:01:46.719 --> 00:01:50.280
But you say, who is Napoleon Hill? Well, if you know,

28
00:01:50.439 --> 00:01:54.200
you know, But if you don't know, you will after

29
00:01:54.239 --> 00:01:58.560
this episode. So let me start out with a quote.

30
00:01:58.799 --> 00:02:03.040
The starting point of all achievement is desire. Keep this

31
00:02:03.200 --> 00:02:09.039
constantly in mind. Weak desire brings weak results, just as

32
00:02:09.080 --> 00:02:13.319
a small fire makes a small amount of heat. While

33
00:02:13.400 --> 00:02:17.800
Business Week magazine would put Think and Grow Rich as

34
00:02:17.919 --> 00:02:22.800
a best seller, ranked in the sixth best selling paperback

35
00:02:22.919 --> 00:02:27.439
business books in seventy years after it was published in

36
00:02:27.560 --> 00:02:31.039
nineteen thirty seven, Think and Grow Rich is listed in

37
00:02:31.159 --> 00:02:35.479
John C. Maxwell's A Lifetime Must Read Books list, and

38
00:02:35.599 --> 00:02:39.039
while the book's title and much of their writing concerns

39
00:02:39.520 --> 00:02:45.360
increasing income, the author Napoleon Hill insists that his philosophy

40
00:02:45.439 --> 00:02:48.599
can help people succeed in any line of work, to

41
00:02:48.719 --> 00:02:52.599
do and be anything they can imagine. And boy is

42
00:02:52.599 --> 00:02:55.759
that true. But let's step back a little bit and

43
00:02:55.840 --> 00:03:01.319
look at Napoleon's life. Napoleon's story starts out in difficult times.

44
00:03:01.719 --> 00:03:04.080
His mother had died when he was ten, and he

45
00:03:04.199 --> 00:03:06.520
was left with a father that was unable to care

46
00:03:06.560 --> 00:03:11.240
for Napoleon and his brother. As it turned out, Napoleon,

47
00:03:11.560 --> 00:03:14.759
through his hard work, dropped out of law school so

48
00:03:14.840 --> 00:03:18.439
he could put his brother through school. And it was

49
00:03:18.560 --> 00:03:22.400
in nineteen o eight that Napoleon worked for a publication

50
00:03:22.919 --> 00:03:27.800
named Quote Bob Taylor's magazine end Quote. This publication offered

51
00:03:28.240 --> 00:03:31.599
advice on achieving power and wealth. Well, that was one

52
00:03:31.599 --> 00:03:35.599
thing that Napoleon was very interested in. One of his

53
00:03:35.680 --> 00:03:40.000
assignments was to interview the great steel magnet Andrew Carnegie

54
00:03:40.680 --> 00:03:44.120
in nineteen o eight. That is what happened on the

55
00:03:44.199 --> 00:03:48.400
famous people dot com website. It says Andrew Carnegie offered

56
00:03:48.560 --> 00:03:52.240
to introduce him to the most successful men of the time.

57
00:03:52.879 --> 00:03:56.919
Napoleon jumped at the opportunity, and the next two decades

58
00:03:57.199 --> 00:04:02.319
saw him work on this mission without compensation. Andrew Carnegie

59
00:04:02.400 --> 00:04:05.439
was not going to pay Hill for his time while

60
00:04:05.479 --> 00:04:09.400
researching it, but Napoleon still jumped at the chance. Will

61
00:04:09.520 --> 00:04:14.520
Napoleon studied, investigated researched and learned all those things that

62
00:04:14.759 --> 00:04:18.000
I just love. But he learned about the quote secret

63
00:04:18.040 --> 00:04:23.120
wealth formula end quote by interviewing more than five hundred millionaires.

64
00:04:23.600 --> 00:04:27.519
Do you just bet how uncomfortable he was in some situations.

65
00:04:28.199 --> 00:04:31.720
Andrew Carnegie and Napoleon grew to be close friends when

66
00:04:31.759 --> 00:04:36.639
this all happened, and Carnegie appreciated Napoleon's drive and work ethics.

67
00:04:37.439 --> 00:04:41.959
Napoleon interviewed the most famous people of the time, including

68
00:04:42.160 --> 00:04:48.079
Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, George Eastman, Henry Ford, Elmer Gates,

69
00:04:48.240 --> 00:04:53.800
John D. Rockefeller, Charles M. Schwab, F. W. Woolworth, Theodore Roosevelt,

70
00:04:53.920 --> 00:04:57.079
and Woodrow Wilson, to name just a few. And in

71
00:04:57.160 --> 00:05:00.680
nineteen twelve, as he was still researching for Andrew Carnegie,

72
00:05:00.800 --> 00:05:04.199
he left for Chicago and worked in various fields as

73
00:05:04.279 --> 00:05:08.120
he did the research all along. When World War One began,

74
00:05:08.680 --> 00:05:13.240
he wrote to President Woodrow Wilson offering his services. Wilson

75
00:05:13.279 --> 00:05:17.079
put him to work on propaganda materials. From nineteen nineteen

76
00:05:17.160 --> 00:05:21.000
to nineteen twenty, he brought out Hill's Golden Rule, a

77
00:05:21.079 --> 00:05:25.399
magazine dedicated to the philosophy of success that he had

78
00:05:25.480 --> 00:05:29.199
learned through talking to all these millionaires. It was blended

79
00:05:29.439 --> 00:05:32.600
with biblical psalms and gospel teachings he had learned when

80
00:05:32.600 --> 00:05:35.439
he was a boy, and it was an instant hit.

81
00:05:35.879 --> 00:05:40.519
A bit later he became an advisor to President Franklin D. Roosevelt,

82
00:05:40.720 --> 00:05:43.920
and that was between nineteen thirty three and nineteen thirty six,

83
00:05:44.560 --> 00:05:49.040
and then finally, finally, in nineteen thirty seven, the book

84
00:05:49.480 --> 00:05:53.000
Think and Grow Rich was published. The book is still

85
00:05:53.120 --> 00:05:57.160
extremely popular in self development today and is used in

86
00:05:57.319 --> 00:06:02.600
many instructional self development corps, horses and conferences all over

87
00:06:02.680 --> 00:06:06.199
the world. And I am here holding the copy of

88
00:06:07.000 --> 00:06:10.879
Think and Grow Rich, the complete classic text, and for

89
00:06:10.920 --> 00:06:14.600
a while there I had several copies that I gave out.

90
00:06:15.480 --> 00:06:18.000
Napoleon Hill is known to be one of the greatest

91
00:06:18.000 --> 00:06:22.160
thought leaders of our time. As you read through the

92
00:06:22.160 --> 00:06:27.160
book page by page, and as directed by Napoleon himself,

93
00:06:27.600 --> 00:06:31.759
not missing any chapters, you will find a bevy of

94
00:06:31.920 --> 00:06:37.439
information that can and really does apply to not only wealth,

95
00:06:38.000 --> 00:06:42.120
but in all areas of our lives. Think and Grow

96
00:06:42.199 --> 00:06:49.519
Rich does not necessarily mean becoming physically monetarily rich. No, no, no,

97
00:06:50.000 --> 00:06:52.680
And Napoleon Hill would be the first one to tell

98
00:06:52.720 --> 00:07:00.360
you that you can grow rich in many areas relationships, health, strength, spirituality, courage,

99
00:07:00.680 --> 00:07:05.399
and wealth. Yes, true, Think and Grow Rich reads like

100
00:07:05.439 --> 00:07:10.040
a guide for living your best life, and isn't that

101
00:07:10.120 --> 00:07:15.920
what we all want? Of course, you must actually read it, right.

102
00:07:16.920 --> 00:07:20.240
It is not for the casual reader that might read

103
00:07:20.360 --> 00:07:24.720
some parts, not take it very seriously and not read

104
00:07:24.839 --> 00:07:28.759
other parts, or might read the parts that they find interesting,

105
00:07:29.560 --> 00:07:33.360
but they may not find them that interesting and might

106
00:07:33.399 --> 00:07:37.120
read it once and put it down. Hah. But you

107
00:07:37.199 --> 00:07:41.560
can't do that. Rather, this great book is a reference

108
00:07:41.920 --> 00:07:45.759
for those that truly want life changing events to happen,

109
00:07:46.639 --> 00:07:49.519
and they will happen if you read the book and

110
00:07:49.560 --> 00:07:52.680
truly want to learn what's in it. You and me

111
00:07:53.519 --> 00:07:57.879
want better for ourselves. That's why we read the book

112
00:07:57.920 --> 00:08:01.839
Think and Grow Rich. We won't accept half hearted attempts

113
00:08:01.879 --> 00:08:05.120
at getting where we want to go in life. Nothing

114
00:08:05.160 --> 00:08:09.000
will happen with half hearted actions, right, That's what we

115
00:08:09.040 --> 00:08:13.199
talk about. The book takes strength and complete commitment to

116
00:08:13.279 --> 00:08:16.759
the total understanding and clear vision of what you want

117
00:08:16.759 --> 00:08:21.079
for yourself, and sometimes that includes reading it more than once.

118
00:08:21.680 --> 00:08:26.399
Sure it could and is about business acumen, it really is,

119
00:08:26.839 --> 00:08:31.240
but it is also about knowing your inner being, mindfulness

120
00:08:31.639 --> 00:08:35.840
and acknowledging that you are in charge of your own life,

121
00:08:36.360 --> 00:08:41.519
which you are not the physical outside world. No, but

122
00:08:41.720 --> 00:08:45.679
how exactly you get the mind to work and your

123
00:08:45.759 --> 00:08:50.399
advantage in every situation and start to see improvements through

124
00:08:50.840 --> 00:08:54.159
the changing of your mind. There are some thought leaders

125
00:08:54.200 --> 00:08:57.039
today that are still reading the book and always find

126
00:08:57.080 --> 00:09:00.639
new concepts and different ways of looking at what is

127
00:09:00.720 --> 00:09:04.360
in the book. But most interesting is that you may

128
00:09:04.440 --> 00:09:08.240
find yourself thinking about things that you never thought about

129
00:09:08.399 --> 00:09:11.200
or never occurred to you. How to make your life

130
00:09:11.279 --> 00:09:14.840
better by making small steps in the right direction. And

131
00:09:14.919 --> 00:09:19.320
that's great too. I always say small steps or big steps,

132
00:09:19.440 --> 00:09:24.159
you are growing uncomfortable. And Napoleon is not shy about

133
00:09:24.200 --> 00:09:28.960
one lesson that most millionaires realize, and that is to

134
00:09:29.720 --> 00:09:34.480
not telling everybody you know about your plans regarding business

135
00:09:34.600 --> 00:09:38.440
or changes in your life. Ps And by the way,

136
00:09:38.679 --> 00:09:43.039
just me telling you sidebar here. The reason is that

137
00:09:43.039 --> 00:09:46.279
that person you tell might just tell you it's not

138
00:09:46.360 --> 00:09:49.600
a good idea, knock that thought down and make you

139
00:09:49.919 --> 00:09:53.879
doubt yourself. This type of thing happens to all of us.

140
00:09:53.960 --> 00:09:57.200
It's happened to me, and I'm sure it's happened to you.

141
00:09:58.159 --> 00:10:01.000
We want people we care about to to be excited

142
00:10:01.080 --> 00:10:04.600
for us, But family members and friends either think you

143
00:10:04.799 --> 00:10:08.000
can't achieve a goal or may say that idea has

144
00:10:08.080 --> 00:10:11.919
already been accomplished by someone else. And believe me when

145
00:10:11.919 --> 00:10:14.080
you read it in the book, which he does mention,

146
00:10:14.480 --> 00:10:17.840
the fear of loved ones not moving ahead while you

147
00:10:18.120 --> 00:10:23.080
do is the simplest reason for such sharp replies. Now listen.

148
00:10:23.200 --> 00:10:27.120
Some of the chapters are interesting because the topics show

149
00:10:27.200 --> 00:10:30.039
up in today's world as well as back in Napoleon

150
00:10:30.159 --> 00:10:34.159
Hill's time. There's no real difference. Life is life, and

151
00:10:34.320 --> 00:10:38.279
we all have the same wants and desires. As Napoleon

152
00:10:38.360 --> 00:10:41.919
Hill once said, let us center our attention upon the

153
00:10:42.000 --> 00:10:45.519
subject of self suggestion. That's what I talked about in

154
00:10:45.600 --> 00:10:50.879
the last episode. Is auto suggestion or self hypnosis? Self suggestion,

155
00:10:51.440 --> 00:10:54.200
and find out what it is and what it is

156
00:10:54.279 --> 00:10:57.919
capable of achieving. It is a well known fact that

157
00:10:58.000 --> 00:11:02.200
one comes finally to believe whatever one repeats to one's self,

158
00:11:02.919 --> 00:11:07.519
whether the statement is true or false. If a person

159
00:11:07.759 --> 00:11:11.720
repeats a lie over and over, that person will eventually

160
00:11:12.200 --> 00:11:16.960
accept the lie as truth. Moreover, he will believe it

161
00:11:17.120 --> 00:11:20.200
to be the truth. Every person is what he or

162
00:11:20.240 --> 00:11:25.559
she is because of the in all caps dominating thoughts

163
00:11:26.080 --> 00:11:30.240
which he or she permits to occupy their mind. You

164
00:11:30.279 --> 00:11:33.519
know what. Besides the chapter on autosuggestion, which I do

165
00:11:33.919 --> 00:11:36.679
love and I do suggest you read, be sure to

166
00:11:36.799 --> 00:11:41.679
note that there are also excellent chapters, and as Napoleon

167
00:11:41.759 --> 00:11:44.720
Hill has stated, do not miss any of them. But

168
00:11:44.759 --> 00:11:48.879
there are excellent chapters on the imagination, how to form

169
00:11:48.960 --> 00:11:55.559
a mastermind, which we all know about nowadays, masterminds, persistence, desire, decision,

170
00:11:55.919 --> 00:12:01.120
and how to use that subconscious mind. Here is something

171
00:12:01.480 --> 00:12:04.960
kind of interesting from the introduction of the Think and

172
00:12:05.039 --> 00:12:09.600
Grow Rich Discovery Guide from Gary Chappell. The PDF version

173
00:12:09.879 --> 00:12:13.240
will be in the show notes. While the starting point

174
00:12:13.320 --> 00:12:16.639
that is most helpful for beginners of this type of

175
00:12:16.679 --> 00:12:20.799
study is that of auto suggestion. Here is what Napoleon

176
00:12:20.879 --> 00:12:24.639
Hill wrote about auto suggestion. Now let us go back

177
00:12:24.919 --> 00:12:28.600
to the starting point and become informed of how an

178
00:12:28.639 --> 00:12:33.080
original seed of an idea, plan, or purpose may be

179
00:12:33.120 --> 00:12:39.679
planted in the mind. The information is easily conveyed. Any idea, plan,

180
00:12:39.960 --> 00:12:44.799
or purpose may be placed in the mind through repetition

181
00:12:45.000 --> 00:12:49.440
of thought. This is why you are asked to write

182
00:12:49.480 --> 00:12:54.200
out a statement of your major purpose or definite chief aim,

183
00:12:54.759 --> 00:12:59.240
commit it to memory, and repeat it, repeat it, repeat

184
00:12:59.279 --> 00:13:04.799
it audible words day after day until these vibrations of

185
00:13:04.879 --> 00:13:08.720
the sound of your voice have reached your subconscious mind.

186
00:13:09.200 --> 00:13:15.200
That is what happens with self hypnosis and repetition affirmations.

187
00:13:15.360 --> 00:13:19.639
And lastly, here I have a document entitled what have

188
00:13:19.759 --> 00:13:25.399
we discovered? Directly from the Think and Grow Rich Discovery Guide.

189
00:13:25.679 --> 00:13:31.480
There are five things. First, leave the past behind, say goodbye.

190
00:13:31.759 --> 00:13:35.440
Don't let the baggage of the past prevent you from

191
00:13:35.440 --> 00:13:39.440
living your dreams today. Yes, things may not have gone

192
00:13:39.840 --> 00:13:44.799
your way, but that is no more. Second, decide if

193
00:13:44.879 --> 00:13:47.759
you are a goal person or a person that goes

194
00:13:47.799 --> 00:13:51.639
here and there. Some people never act because they are

195
00:13:51.759 --> 00:13:55.120
unsure of what career path they truly want to be on.

196
00:13:55.759 --> 00:14:01.759
Don't let that keep you from getting started, Ruiz, Imagine

197
00:14:02.000 --> 00:14:06.200
how you want to be living life. Remain open minded

198
00:14:06.600 --> 00:14:10.759
and pay close attention to opportunities when they come along.

199
00:14:11.759 --> 00:14:15.559
When the right one arrives, you will immediately become passionate

200
00:14:15.600 --> 00:14:19.159
about it because it will be the right one. Third

201
00:14:19.399 --> 00:14:23.360
is fan the flames of desire build a white hot

202
00:14:23.399 --> 00:14:27.279
flame of desire for the life you want to be living.

203
00:14:27.720 --> 00:14:31.879
Become intensely passionate about what you want out of life,

204
00:14:32.360 --> 00:14:35.600
and let the world lay the opportunities at your feet

205
00:14:35.799 --> 00:14:40.200
because of that passion. And Fourth, have faith. Believe that

206
00:14:40.240 --> 00:14:42.720
it's going to happen. Believe you are going to achieve

207
00:14:42.919 --> 00:14:46.879
your goals and desires. Expect them to happen. I would

208
00:14:46.879 --> 00:14:49.879
even go a step further, and I would say, to

209
00:14:50.039 --> 00:14:54.320
know they are happening right now. Fifth, don't make excuses.

210
00:14:54.440 --> 00:14:57.279
This is huge, and this is where we all falter.

211
00:14:58.120 --> 00:15:01.840
Excuses are the reasons you won't achieve what you want.

212
00:15:02.600 --> 00:15:05.720
They are tricky and sneak into your mind every chance

213
00:15:05.759 --> 00:15:09.480
they get. Don't believe your excuses. Believe in the power

214
00:15:09.600 --> 00:15:12.480
of your mind to provide whatever you need to help

215
00:15:12.519 --> 00:15:16.200
you reach your goals, because that will happen if you

216
00:15:16.440 --> 00:15:21.440
don't listen to your excuses. Regarding Napoleon's life, just so

217
00:15:21.600 --> 00:15:27.039
I am clear about this, Napoleon Hill did not live

218
00:15:27.279 --> 00:15:31.759
a stellar, perfect life, and it is reported that he

219
00:15:31.919 --> 00:15:36.519
was not always the nicest man, short on patience and

220
00:15:36.679 --> 00:15:39.879
ill tempered, and he wasn't afraid of telling people what

221
00:15:40.039 --> 00:15:43.399
he really thought, regardless if it was what they wanted

222
00:15:43.399 --> 00:15:47.200
to hear or not. But Napoleon Hill, despite his short falls,

223
00:15:47.440 --> 00:15:51.120
has a legacy of helping billions of people through his

224
00:15:51.200 --> 00:15:55.440
book Think and Grow Rich, and that alone cannot be forgotten.

225
00:15:56.039 --> 00:15:59.639
So do you believe that Napoleon was uncomfortable with the

226
00:15:59.639 --> 00:16:05.240
assassignment that Andrew Carnegie gave him. Well? Probably we are

227
00:16:05.320 --> 00:16:09.879
all uncomfortable at new and unfamiliar situations that happen to us.

228
00:16:10.240 --> 00:16:13.320
We know that. But this does not mean we throw

229
00:16:13.399 --> 00:16:16.720
in the towel. Far from it. Look around you at

230
00:16:16.799 --> 00:16:20.960
all the people who were uncomfortable with trying new things,

231
00:16:21.159 --> 00:16:26.879
the musicians, the innovators, the people that you admire, the

232
00:16:26.919 --> 00:16:32.480
public speakers. If they can persist, then so can you.

233
00:16:33.279 --> 00:16:39.159
And lastly, a quote from Napoleon Hill, you are the

234
00:16:39.200 --> 00:16:44.799
master of your destiny. You can influence, direct, and control

235
00:16:45.000 --> 00:16:49.039
your own environment. You may make your life what you

236
00:16:49.159 --> 00:16:52.759
want it to be. And that is what I want

237
00:16:52.759 --> 00:16:57.879
for you today and every day. Hey, if you've enjoyed
