I taped this episode twice.

The first version looked better. I stayed on track. I covered more of what I planned to say. And I am not using it.

Because somewhere in this second version, I got emotional. I lost my place. I forgot which question I was answering. I went off the rails more than once. And it felt more like me.

Which, as it turns out, is also kind of the whole point of this episode.

When I was four years old, I was legally blind in one eye. I couldn't see Ariel from the Little Mermaid on the TV inches in front of me, but I could hear the music. So I danced anyway, freely and like no one was watching.

At 37, I started riding roller coasters…and closed my eyes.

Now, at 41, my eyes are open. And I'm learning that trusting God when you can't see what's next doesn't mean He gives you the whole plan. Maybe you only get the next brick along your yellow brick road.

In this solo episode of Quick Before I Forget, I'm answering three more questions from my Ground Crew about identity, self-trust, finding your purpose, faith, grief and joy, and what keeps us moving when we can't see the whole road ahead.

We get into The Little Mermaid, becoming someone my four-year-old self would trust, a devastating day that became the catalyst for the Emo Roller Coaster Gal brand, the yellow brick road, Meta Oakley glasses, and something Trent Shelton once told me about vision that suddenly means more than ever.

This one isn't perfect, but that's okay because neither am I. I'm human. And I'm choosing to let you see it anyway.

Eyes open. Arms up.

Quick before you forget: We don't need to see the whole road or the whole track. We just need to show up anyway. Together.

🎙️ Keep sending me your questions for Season 2. Next time (thank you Coach Doc): If past Ty, present Ty and future Ty were all sitting in a room together, what would they say?

WEBVTT

1
00:00:01.730 --> 00:00:05.410
I can remember the way the carpet felt because it

2
00:00:05.429 --> 00:00:07.750
was the kind of carpet that was in a spot

3
00:00:07.809 --> 00:00:12.689
that didn't get traversed or sat on that often because

4
00:00:12.710 --> 00:00:15.359
it was super, super close to the TV. Like we're

5
00:00:15.380 --> 00:00:18.539
talking inches, about as close as you could be to

6
00:00:18.620 --> 00:00:20.640
one of those TVs that used to be hooked up

7
00:00:20.699 --> 00:00:27.679
to a VCR playing a VHS tape of The Little Mermaid.

8
00:00:28.140 --> 00:00:30.429
What else would it have been playing but The Little Mermaid?

9
00:00:31.109 --> 00:00:36.530
It was playing The Little Mermaid featuring my favorite Disney princess, Ariel.

10
00:00:37.729 --> 00:00:43.740
And I could not see it. I was inches away.

11
00:00:43.780 --> 00:00:45.899
I was as close as you could be. And I

12
00:00:45.960 --> 00:00:51.880
could not see it. I couldn't see Ariel. I couldn't

13
00:00:52.020 --> 00:00:56.729
see Sebastian, the whole crew. They were blurry because I

14
00:00:57.070 --> 00:01:01.200
was wearing a patch on my right eye. which is

15
00:01:01.299 --> 00:01:04.469
my strong eye, my healthy eye, the eye that has

16
00:01:04.530 --> 00:01:08.370
gotten me through. I was wearing a patch on my

17
00:01:08.409 --> 00:01:12.609
right eye, so I couldn't see the TV because my

18
00:01:12.670 --> 00:01:20.489
left eye was at that point 2,400, which is considered

19
00:01:20.530 --> 00:01:24.040
legally blind. So yes, I was at the age of four,

20
00:01:25.099 --> 00:01:30.980
legally blind in my left eye. The doctors scared the

21
00:01:31.000 --> 00:01:33.560
crap out of my parents. They basically told them that

22
00:01:33.659 --> 00:01:37.489
I probably wouldn't live what would be considered a normal

23
00:01:37.790 --> 00:01:45.969
adult life. I probably maybe wouldn't drive. And they were heartbroken.

24
00:01:48.060 --> 00:01:53.159
And they were scared. But they showed up anyway. My

25
00:01:53.200 --> 00:01:58.760
mom showed up anyway in the fear. She patched me

26
00:02:00.000 --> 00:02:03.769
So patch over my right eye so that the muscles

27
00:02:03.950 --> 00:02:06.989
and everything involved with using your left eye would work

28
00:02:07.090 --> 00:02:11.389
harder and build up the elasticity to improve and heal

29
00:02:12.169 --> 00:02:15.889
from nothing that we understood at the time. It was

30
00:02:15.930 --> 00:02:18.090
nobody's fault. It's not like something went wrong. It's just

31
00:02:18.150 --> 00:02:19.990
I could not see out of my left eye. I

32
00:02:20.069 --> 00:02:23.610
have a stigmatism and a lazy eye in my left eye.

33
00:02:24.370 --> 00:02:27.110
And when I'm really tired or really sick, You can

34
00:02:27.250 --> 00:02:30.689
always tell. And I'm super self-conscious about it in photos.

35
00:02:31.169 --> 00:02:34.150
But the whole point is my mom showed up for

36
00:02:34.189 --> 00:02:40.550
me in the fear by patching my good eye in

37
00:02:40.590 --> 00:02:42.710
a way that made me not be able to see.

38
00:02:44.069 --> 00:02:46.849
So at the age of four, I couldn't see, but

39
00:02:46.909 --> 00:02:51.250
I could hear. And the music, guys, the music got

40
00:02:51.310 --> 00:02:53.810
me through. So one of the coolest things that I

41
00:02:53.849 --> 00:02:59.129
remember about my love Ariel is I actually won a

42
00:03:00.250 --> 00:03:03.620
dance contest the only time I've ever won a dance

43
00:03:03.659 --> 00:03:08.120
contest by the way I won a dance contest and

44
00:03:08.159 --> 00:03:12.599
the prize was a copy a VHS copy you remember

45
00:03:12.659 --> 00:03:16.909
the one with like the puffy plastic packaging the VHS

46
00:03:17.090 --> 00:03:20.229
of the Little Mermaid which was my favorite favorite movie

47
00:03:20.629 --> 00:03:23.270
so I That was the prize. And in order to

48
00:03:23.330 --> 00:03:26.289
prep for it, my mom actually took me to Anita's

49
00:03:26.330 --> 00:03:29.409
dance studio. Um, I think in like new Berlin or something,

50
00:03:29.430 --> 00:03:31.689
the South side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she takes me to

51
00:03:31.740 --> 00:03:34.280
this dance studio and I was going there anyway for

52
00:03:34.310 --> 00:03:36.659
dance classes, but I think this was extra. I think,

53
00:03:36.780 --> 00:03:39.759
I think this was like an extra, um, like paid

54
00:03:39.819 --> 00:03:42.759
lesson or whatever, which we didn't, we didn't do stuff

55
00:03:42.780 --> 00:03:46.699
like that. So it was special. It was special. And

56
00:03:46.900 --> 00:03:52.189
I got my dance routine all set. For Under the

57
00:03:52.250 --> 00:03:56.539
Sea from the Little Mermaid soundtrack. And I dressed up

58
00:03:56.580 --> 00:04:02.500
like Ariel. And I performed Under the Sea at Bucky's

59
00:04:02.599 --> 00:04:03.439
Super Video.

60
00:04:05.409 --> 00:04:06.090
And I won.

61
00:04:06.099 --> 00:04:10.770
And I danced like no one was watching.

62
00:04:11.810 --> 00:04:12.569
And here's the thing.

63
00:04:12.590 --> 00:04:17.470
I am a terrible dancer. I try my best. But

64
00:04:17.490 --> 00:04:22.110
I'm awful at it. But four-year-old me didn't care. Four-year-old

65
00:04:22.149 --> 00:04:24.930
me was living her best life. And she was winning

66
00:04:25.089 --> 00:04:28.509
the Little Mermaid video that she would later not be

67
00:04:28.569 --> 00:04:33.930
able to see. But she could hear it. And before

68
00:04:34.009 --> 00:04:37.129
my mom even knew that she was doing it, she

69
00:04:37.470 --> 00:04:40.910
showed me, she modeled for me how to show up

70
00:04:41.209 --> 00:05:04.980
in fear. So I'm back for round two, showing up

71
00:05:05.160 --> 00:05:09.420
in fear to talk to you again, because round one

72
00:05:09.480 --> 00:05:12.290
was so fun. And thank you so much because so

73
00:05:12.329 --> 00:05:15.670
many of you reached out and said, I don't want

74
00:05:15.689 --> 00:05:19.689
to cry. So many of you reached out and said

75
00:05:19.750 --> 00:05:23.649
what the episode meant to you and how you interpreted

76
00:05:23.769 --> 00:05:27.339
it and how you were a little upset with me.

77
00:05:29.000 --> 00:05:31.420
Cause I didn't answer all the questions. And here's the thing.

78
00:05:31.459 --> 00:05:34.879
I really wanted to, like I had good intentions and

79
00:05:34.899 --> 00:05:37.040
I was going to answer all 22 questions. And then

80
00:05:37.060 --> 00:05:39.879
I realized that that would not do justice to the questions.

81
00:05:39.980 --> 00:05:42.569
Cause I don't know. I did pin the post. There's

82
00:05:42.610 --> 00:05:46.589
a post pinned on Instagram with my photo. And then

83
00:05:46.649 --> 00:05:49.230
like the quick, before I forget, like, let's ask all the,

84
00:05:49.290 --> 00:05:49.970
ask me anything.

85
00:05:50.170 --> 00:05:50.389
Okay.

86
00:05:50.430 --> 00:05:53.379
And that's still there and it's still open until further notice.

87
00:05:53.449 --> 00:05:57.620
I'm leaving the conversation open. They're open. Please go get it.

88
00:05:57.699 --> 00:05:59.600
Please go give me your questions because this is not

89
00:05:59.660 --> 00:06:02.399
something that's just going to be this one time thing. No, no, no.

90
00:06:02.819 --> 00:06:05.160
We are here for a minute. We are here for

91
00:06:05.180 --> 00:06:08.819
the whole yellow brick road, y'all. So send me your questions.

92
00:06:09.810 --> 00:06:15.050
Keep the conversation going. Stop right now and say one

93
00:06:15.089 --> 00:06:17.610
thing you're grateful for in the comments, please. And thank you.

94
00:06:17.670 --> 00:06:20.209
Just one small thing doesn't have to be fancy. I'm

95
00:06:20.230 --> 00:06:22.610
grateful for my little candle here. I don't know if

96
00:06:22.629 --> 00:06:25.689
you can see it. It says manifestation. And it's the cutest.

97
00:06:25.889 --> 00:06:27.550
I'm going to have to show that. I'm going to

98
00:06:27.569 --> 00:06:31.339
have to show that at some point. But thank you

99
00:06:31.959 --> 00:06:37.800
for reaching back. Thank you for taking the time out

100
00:06:37.839 --> 00:06:40.360
of your life to reach back and say hello to

101
00:06:40.399 --> 00:06:43.290
me in the comments and to listen and leave reviews

102
00:06:43.470 --> 00:06:47.129
on the apps. And the thing was, there was one

103
00:06:47.170 --> 00:06:50.329
thing that everybody was a little bit like, Ty. Okay,

104
00:06:50.649 --> 00:06:52.970
so Ty. We're going to answer all the questions. That's

105
00:06:53.009 --> 00:06:55.310
the point. We are going to answer all the questions.

106
00:06:55.350 --> 00:06:57.550
They are going to get answered. I don't make promises

107
00:06:57.610 --> 00:06:59.389
that I don't deliver on. So we are going to

108
00:06:59.449 --> 00:07:02.040
answer all the questions. It's just not going to happen

109
00:07:02.069 --> 00:07:04.800
right this minute. It's not going to happen today. It's

110
00:07:04.839 --> 00:07:07.420
going to happen in pieces because you guys have given

111
00:07:07.459 --> 00:07:10.560
me the roadmap for season two with these questions, and

112
00:07:10.600 --> 00:07:15.680
I hope they keep coming. So for today, we are

113
00:07:15.750 --> 00:07:19.100
answering three. And what was really cool as I was

114
00:07:19.160 --> 00:07:21.920
thinking and working through these questions, what was really cool

115
00:07:21.939 --> 00:07:24.920
was these three actually come together in a way that

116
00:07:24.939 --> 00:07:29.459
tells a whole story. And it's all about vision and

117
00:07:29.519 --> 00:07:31.720
how our eyes are open and our arms are up.

118
00:07:31.800 --> 00:07:35.120
So buckle up, friends. It's time to dive in. My

119
00:07:35.160 --> 00:07:38.639
first question today comes from my very new friend, Stacy,

120
00:07:39.019 --> 00:07:41.829
who I actually got to spend some time with kind

121
00:07:41.870 --> 00:07:44.310
of swapping life stories this week a little bit more.

122
00:07:44.819 --> 00:07:48.050
We met each other at my friend C.W. Hawley's Goals

123
00:07:48.149 --> 00:07:53.189
Night Out event, and she's just a very nice, incredibly

124
00:07:53.269 --> 00:07:59.290
abundant human and new friend. And Stacey's question was a

125
00:07:59.329 --> 00:08:00.949
hard one, is a hard one, but we're going to

126
00:08:00.990 --> 00:08:03.180
unpack it together. So the question is, let me find it.

127
00:08:04.290 --> 00:08:09.240
Stacey's question is, who are you when you strip away

128
00:08:09.560 --> 00:08:17.990
the roles, responsibilities, positions, and problems to solve? I needed

129
00:08:18.050 --> 00:08:22.930
a minute with that question because of course I'm a

130
00:08:23.009 --> 00:08:25.879
mama and a wife and I love those jobs more

131
00:08:25.920 --> 00:08:30.860
than anything. And I'm a fixer. I'm a connector. I'm

132
00:08:30.879 --> 00:08:34.820
a problem solver. I'm a writer. I'm a best-selling author.

133
00:08:35.419 --> 00:08:39.779
I am a friend. I am so many things. I'm

134
00:08:39.799 --> 00:08:44.340
the emo rollercoaster gal. I am... A lot of different

135
00:08:44.360 --> 00:08:46.559
things to a lot of different people. And that has

136
00:08:46.620 --> 00:08:51.440
been the way that I've lived my life. And it

137
00:08:51.519 --> 00:08:57.309
all took me back to four-year-old me. It took me

138
00:08:57.370 --> 00:09:02.629
back to the girl who danced like no one was watching.

139
00:09:04.070 --> 00:09:09.539
The girl who found joy in music. The music got

140
00:09:09.580 --> 00:09:14.570
her through. Like... strip everything away from, from all the,

141
00:09:14.750 --> 00:09:17.929
like all the stuff. And what you have was like

142
00:09:18.129 --> 00:09:24.039
little me leaving these like breadcrumbs of things that would

143
00:09:24.740 --> 00:09:36.029
mean more to me with time, not less. Music, movement, joy, curiosity, story, connection,

144
00:09:37.730 --> 00:09:44.240
big feelings, big, big feelings. Wonder. Guys, I saw this

145
00:09:44.519 --> 00:09:47.090
Instagram post and I need to try to find it,

146
00:09:47.139 --> 00:09:49.730
but I saw this Instagram post of this woman talking

147
00:09:49.769 --> 00:09:52.710
this week about how the people in your life who

148
00:09:52.870 --> 00:09:57.129
are the most whimsical, they find magic everywhere they go

149
00:09:57.610 --> 00:10:01.789
and they look for all the little things. They have

150
00:10:01.970 --> 00:10:05.629
mastered the art of noticing and they err a little

151
00:10:05.669 --> 00:10:06.620
bit on the side.

152
00:10:06.429 --> 00:10:08.200
Of cuckoo delusional, okay?

153
00:10:10.860 --> 00:10:14.720
I identify with this. The video though, the whole point

154
00:10:14.759 --> 00:10:18.259
of the video was that most people who are that

155
00:10:18.340 --> 00:10:21.299
whimsical and who do kind of live life a little

156
00:10:21.320 --> 00:10:26.759
bit on the air of like, sometimes you worry. They're

157
00:10:26.799 --> 00:10:30.100
that way because they choose to be, because it's a

158
00:10:30.220 --> 00:10:35.330
coping mechanism, because it's how they got through the darkness.

159
00:10:35.450 --> 00:10:40.509
That is why they are the way they are. They

160
00:10:40.590 --> 00:10:44.210
choose to see life as these little miracles happening throughout

161
00:10:44.250 --> 00:10:48.710
their day. They choose to to be the light because

162
00:10:48.789 --> 00:10:52.649
they were in the dark. They choose it. That is

163
00:10:52.690 --> 00:10:57.370
the whole point. They choose it just as you, just

164
00:10:57.450 --> 00:11:00.480
as you did when you were little. Like it, little

165
00:11:00.500 --> 00:11:06.279
me chose to do those things because she wasn't told

166
00:11:06.440 --> 00:11:11.970
to shrink yet. She wasn't told that she needed to

167
00:11:12.110 --> 00:11:18.659
use highest value and fewest words. And she wasn't being edited.

168
00:11:20.080 --> 00:11:25.299
She wasn't being molded into something else. She was just

169
00:11:25.340 --> 00:11:32.120
being her. And it was enough. So who am I

170
00:11:32.179 --> 00:11:35.700
without all the job titles? Who am I without the

171
00:11:35.960 --> 00:11:41.629
different roles and responsibilities? I'm me. I'm four year old me.

172
00:11:41.809 --> 00:11:44.629
I am just a girl. I am just a girl.

173
00:11:45.250 --> 00:11:47.549
This is a story that I've told already on the show,

174
00:11:47.610 --> 00:11:50.330
but I'm going to share it again in a solo,

175
00:11:50.549 --> 00:11:55.070
which is, it just takes me through the through line

176
00:11:55.110 --> 00:11:59.529
of this embracing four-year-old me. Because I want you to

177
00:11:59.730 --> 00:12:04.049
embrace four-year-old you. So I'm going to paint the picture

178
00:12:04.169 --> 00:12:10.750
for you. Picture me walking out of Magic Kingdom after

179
00:12:10.840 --> 00:12:17.139
having the most magical morning. We rode Tron. I splurged

180
00:12:17.220 --> 00:12:19.779
on the photo pass and that is its own whole

181
00:12:19.879 --> 00:12:23.379
fun experience at Disney that I wish I'd done the

182
00:12:23.419 --> 00:12:25.909
first time. It was so good.

183
00:12:26.549 --> 00:12:26.950
So good.

184
00:12:27.789 --> 00:12:31.529
And I was feeling so happy that like, it was

185
00:12:31.590 --> 00:12:35.110
just like coming out and I was crying just like

186
00:12:35.169 --> 00:12:40.529
now I was just giggly and happy. And my 10

187
00:12:40.529 --> 00:12:44.590
year old son grabbed my hand. And he looked at

188
00:12:44.669 --> 00:12:45.059
me and.

189
00:12:45.000 --> 00:12:48.120
He said, mom, I just love that you're so childish.

190
00:12:53.100 --> 00:12:57.539
And it hurt. It actually hurt.

191
00:12:58.159 --> 00:13:03.830
I thought to myself, wow, that's probably not great. And

192
00:13:03.850 --> 00:13:11.269
then I let myself feel it. Because that's actually the

193
00:13:11.309 --> 00:13:15.720
nicest thing he's ever said to me. I know people

194
00:13:15.759 --> 00:13:19.080
that may have seen, you know, you're a childish mom.

195
00:13:19.600 --> 00:13:21.659
I love that you're so childish. I know that people

196
00:13:21.759 --> 00:13:24.600
may have seen or may see that as a not

197
00:13:24.659 --> 00:13:27.340
so nice thing to say to a parent. And I

198
00:13:27.399 --> 00:13:29.980
think it was probably the nicest gift he's ever given me.

199
00:13:32.259 --> 00:13:35.940
Because it was like he gave four-year-old me a hug.

200
00:13:38.320 --> 00:13:41.500
And it ignited something special for me. I forgot what

201
00:13:41.570 --> 00:13:45.029
question I'm on. So I think where we're at is

202
00:13:45.129 --> 00:13:47.809
that Kelly, my dear friend who has helped me stay

203
00:13:47.830 --> 00:13:52.309
grounded and is my prayer warrior asked me, aside from

204
00:13:52.370 --> 00:13:56.509
my kids, what am I most proud of? And I

205
00:13:56.590 --> 00:14:02.509
think the best and honestly, most concise way to answer

206
00:14:02.549 --> 00:14:07.470
that would be that I am, I have become somebody

207
00:14:07.490 --> 00:14:13.950
that I trust. It's happened on my kind of journey

208
00:14:14.009 --> 00:14:16.159
of self-love, which is something that I know all of

209
00:14:16.259 --> 00:14:19.419
us may or may not struggle with. I mean, I

210
00:14:19.480 --> 00:14:22.860
certainly did. I struggled with like, what the heck is

211
00:14:22.919 --> 00:14:27.659
self-love even? Selfish is what I heard, but it's not

212
00:14:27.840 --> 00:14:32.809
at all. And I am on this journey of coming

213
00:14:32.850 --> 00:14:36.889
to love myself more. I trust myself. I am proud

214
00:14:36.970 --> 00:14:41.710
because I became somebody that four-year-old me would trust. The

215
00:14:41.769 --> 00:14:45.029
third question comes from a friend who's known me, I think,

216
00:14:45.450 --> 00:14:50.129
longer than the first two have. Our connection is rooted

217
00:14:50.470 --> 00:14:55.460
in the RISE conferences with Rachel Hollis, where her and

218
00:14:55.500 --> 00:14:59.179
I waited in line together, I think. But we definitely

219
00:14:59.220 --> 00:15:05.360
met at RISE Minneapolis in 2019. So she's seen more

220
00:15:05.399 --> 00:15:10.259
of the experience that is my life than most have.

221
00:15:11.200 --> 00:15:16.200
And her question is essentially what motivates me? What, what

222
00:15:16.220 --> 00:15:23.789
gives me fire? And thinking about that was intense and

223
00:15:23.889 --> 00:15:27.389
involved a lot of prayer and in like just inner

224
00:15:28.029 --> 00:15:33.850
soul work, quite honestly, because what gives me fire dates

225
00:15:33.929 --> 00:15:38.600
back to another hard day. I would go as far

226
00:15:38.659 --> 00:15:42.379
as to say that June 30th of 2024 is about

227
00:15:42.419 --> 00:15:45.500
as close to a birthday as the emo rollercoaster gal

228
00:15:45.539 --> 00:15:49.820
could get. My birthday is two weeks later on July 13th,

229
00:15:49.860 --> 00:15:55.889
but June 30th of 2024 is the day that God

230
00:15:55.929 --> 00:15:58.590
set the fire in my heart. He started the fire

231
00:15:58.830 --> 00:16:03.850
in my heart. That is the same day that I

232
00:16:03.909 --> 00:16:07.620
submitted my chapter for the what became the best-selling book,

233
00:16:08.019 --> 00:16:12.539
Triumphs of Transformation, Inspiring Stories of Resilience and Life Change.

234
00:16:14.470 --> 00:16:17.950
That is the book that I have a chapter in,

235
00:16:18.409 --> 00:16:20.870
the best-selling book that I have a chapter in called

236
00:16:21.070 --> 00:16:26.379
Becoming the Storm. The same day that I submitted that chapter,

237
00:16:27.639 --> 00:16:31.000
my oldest, dearest friend from college, who I met in

238
00:16:31.039 --> 00:16:37.090
high school, died in a fire with her daughter, her

239
00:16:37.129 --> 00:16:42.029
five-year-old daughter, her dad, her sister, and two of her

240
00:16:42.080 --> 00:16:49.320
other sister's kids. The same day that I submitted a

241
00:16:49.360 --> 00:16:52.299
chapter in what would become a best-selling book that I

242
00:16:52.340 --> 00:16:54.590
got to go celebrate in New York City and see

243
00:16:54.620 --> 00:17:00.149
displayed in Times Square, that same day, my friend died.

244
00:17:02.570 --> 00:17:11.339
And that is... the emo rollercoaster gal, because grief and

245
00:17:11.400 --> 00:17:19.559
joy can coexist and often do. But getting to know

246
00:17:19.619 --> 00:17:23.859
that and getting to experience it in a way that

247
00:17:23.900 --> 00:17:31.470
I practice on rollercoasters ever since and intensely and connectedly

248
00:17:31.490 --> 00:17:35.839
and collectively, healingly, Like, I don't even know where I'm

249
00:17:35.859 --> 00:17:43.730
going with this, guys. This journey has been intense. That

250
00:17:43.769 --> 00:17:46.230
was not the most intense thing to happen. It was

251
00:17:46.369 --> 00:17:48.650
one of the most intense things to happen, but there's

252
00:17:48.670 --> 00:17:54.359
been so much else that's happened. All with the fire

253
00:17:54.559 --> 00:17:56.900
that God started in my heart to be the light.

254
00:18:00.140 --> 00:18:02.420
I believe it. I am meant to be the light.

255
00:18:03.119 --> 00:18:06.420
because I became the light for myself when I became

256
00:18:06.480 --> 00:18:10.640
the storm, I am meant to be the light for

257
00:18:10.700 --> 00:18:16.880
me to ignite others, to heal, to heal, to see

258
00:18:17.380 --> 00:18:23.130
their own light because it's there. It's absolutely there already.

259
00:18:24.349 --> 00:18:28.049
That's the thing that I wish I could shake younger me,

260
00:18:28.730 --> 00:18:31.450
versions of me, 22 year old me.

261
00:18:31.549 --> 00:18:36.069
I want to just, Just want to shake her because.

262
00:18:37.750 --> 00:18:41.630
She thought she was fat. She thought she was fat

263
00:18:42.690 --> 00:18:45.849
and she drank too much. And I just, I just,

264
00:18:47.529 --> 00:18:51.410
I just wish she knew that the light was there

265
00:18:51.430 --> 00:18:55.539
all along. The power was there all along. I wish,

266
00:18:55.730 --> 00:18:58.099
I wish I, that's what I wanted. One of the

267
00:18:58.180 --> 00:19:00.900
many things that I wish I could tell 22 year

268
00:19:00.920 --> 00:19:03.750
old me, by the way. To answer my own question,

269
00:19:03.809 --> 00:19:06.490
which I ask so many of our guests on the

270
00:19:06.549 --> 00:19:09.430
episodes of season one of Quick Before You Forget. Go

271
00:19:09.450 --> 00:19:12.150
check those out if you haven't. And say hi. You know,

272
00:19:12.170 --> 00:19:15.359
while we're here, say hello and say something in the chat.

273
00:19:15.420 --> 00:19:18.980
Tell me how we're feeling. Tell me if there's been

274
00:19:19.039 --> 00:19:21.920
something that you thought, like, Ty took me to church

275
00:19:21.940 --> 00:19:25.150
with this one-liner. I would love to hear that. Please

276
00:19:25.690 --> 00:19:29.910
talk back to me. So the question is, was short

277
00:19:30.150 --> 00:19:33.819
and the answer is long, but the fire is God's

278
00:19:33.880 --> 00:19:38.460
work and God's timing and God's purpose on my heart.

279
00:19:39.799 --> 00:19:44.690
I actually had somebody who I kind of, you know,

280
00:19:44.730 --> 00:19:49.730
a lot of this is surprisingly not surprisingly at all.

281
00:19:50.240 --> 00:19:55.240
relating back to connections with people. And one of the connections,

282
00:19:55.619 --> 00:19:57.539
so we went through three questions and I'm going to

283
00:19:57.559 --> 00:19:59.920
tell this story and then I'll try to wrap myself

284
00:20:00.039 --> 00:20:03.650
up here. But I had a I had a bumpy

285
00:20:03.710 --> 00:20:07.690
and hard week this week. So much more about this

286
00:20:07.730 --> 00:20:10.150
last couple of weeks has gone wrong than that has

287
00:20:10.190 --> 00:20:16.609
gone right. And I was feeling lost. And God sent

288
00:20:16.650 --> 00:20:23.960
reminders of the exact messages that I needed and from

289
00:20:24.000 --> 00:20:26.299
the people that I should have known that they were

290
00:20:26.319 --> 00:20:30.750
coming from. But There was one situation, one conversation in particular,

291
00:20:30.789 --> 00:20:34.750
where somebody actually encouraged me feedback-wise on the show to

292
00:20:35.450 --> 00:20:40.250
tone down the God talk. Tone it down. You might

293
00:20:40.269 --> 00:20:43.869
be polarizing people. I don't think that people... I don't

294
00:20:43.910 --> 00:20:48.690
know if you should talk so much about Jesus. Nope.

295
00:20:49.349 --> 00:20:53.019
We're not doing that. That's not happening here. I am living...

296
00:20:53.279 --> 00:20:59.750
into the, I can't preach, I can't say, let's be

297
00:20:59.869 --> 00:21:05.269
excited instead of fearful and not recognize the author of

298
00:21:05.349 --> 00:21:09.789
the story. It's not happening. So the author of this

299
00:21:09.869 --> 00:21:14.079
story is God and the fire that lights inside is

300
00:21:14.160 --> 00:21:17.740
his work. To answer Christine's question in the longest winded

301
00:21:17.799 --> 00:21:24.470
way possible, God keeps me going. Because my friend actually

302
00:21:24.509 --> 00:21:26.029
said that her favorite thing that I said in the

303
00:21:26.069 --> 00:21:27.869
last episode, I'm going to say it again because I'm

304
00:21:27.910 --> 00:21:30.730
actually really proud of it, is I don't have a

305
00:21:30.769 --> 00:21:33.470
five-year plan. I don't have a 10-year plan. I have

306
00:21:33.549 --> 00:21:36.269
the Lord's plan and it is on my heart. And

307
00:21:36.289 --> 00:21:40.349
that is the fire. That is the motivation. Through him,

308
00:21:40.390 --> 00:21:46.339
with him, for him. Amen. Because that's where things come

309
00:21:46.380 --> 00:21:52.069
full circle. It took me also... to a place where

310
00:21:52.150 --> 00:21:55.910
I was thinking and reflecting on something that Trent Shelton

311
00:21:55.970 --> 00:21:59.630
said to me in a podcast interview when I was

312
00:21:59.690 --> 00:22:04.119
behind the scenes for, he said, God gave you the vision.

313
00:22:04.759 --> 00:22:08.960
He did not give them the vision. Stop expecting them

314
00:22:09.779 --> 00:22:13.700
to see what you see. And is that not a

315
00:22:13.920 --> 00:22:17.200
full circle moment on this whole thing where we go

316
00:22:17.240 --> 00:22:21.359
back to four-year-old me who could not see, Like she

317
00:22:21.400 --> 00:22:24.799
couldn't see. And then 37 year old me gets on

318
00:22:24.839 --> 00:22:31.250
a roller coaster and chooses not to see. And now

319
00:22:31.309 --> 00:22:34.910
you have 41 year old me with eyes wide open,

320
00:22:36.990 --> 00:22:43.529
eyes wide open, arms up, heart open. And it's never

321
00:22:43.630 --> 00:22:46.890
been my vision. It's been his vision. So I can't

322
00:22:46.970 --> 00:22:47.809
see anything.

323
00:22:49.119 --> 00:22:49.990
My eyes are open.

324
00:22:50.470 --> 00:22:52.049
But I can't see anything.

325
00:22:52.829 --> 00:22:53.529
It's blurry.

326
00:22:53.549 --> 00:22:59.220
I can see maybe that one brick. That one step.

327
00:22:59.480 --> 00:23:03.460
That one little part in front of me. But otherwise

328
00:23:03.519 --> 00:23:07.980
it's all him. It's the twists and the turns and

329
00:23:08.000 --> 00:23:11.819
the ups and the downs and the drops. It's all

330
00:23:11.859 --> 00:23:19.309
of it. And it's getting to share it with you.

331
00:23:21.470 --> 00:23:26.549
It's getting to share the light that burns. It's getting

332
00:23:26.609 --> 00:23:32.170
to share the stories and the miracles. It's getting to

333
00:23:32.289 --> 00:23:37.049
share it. Not so ironically, because nothing is coincidence and

334
00:23:37.210 --> 00:23:43.019
everything is miracles through the magic of glasses. I'll show you.

335
00:23:43.059 --> 00:23:44.819
I'm going to show you the glasses. So these are

336
00:23:44.839 --> 00:23:48.440
the glasses. Hold on. If you're listening instead of watching,

337
00:23:48.480 --> 00:23:51.680
this is my weekly reminder to go watch these episodes

338
00:23:51.740 --> 00:23:54.539
because they're more fun that way. Um, so I'm putting

339
00:23:54.759 --> 00:23:58.069
on my fancy meta glasses, which I can't even really put.

340
00:23:58.089 --> 00:23:58.970
I'm just going to show them to you.

341
00:23:58.990 --> 00:23:59.390
Okay.

342
00:23:59.470 --> 00:24:00.069
We're going to do this.

343
00:24:00.150 --> 00:24:01.329
This is what I look like.

344
00:24:03.430 --> 00:24:04.410
On the roller coaster.

345
00:24:04.450 --> 00:24:04.849
Okay.

346
00:24:05.390 --> 00:24:08.019
These glasses, which one is, I think they're trying to

347
00:24:08.039 --> 00:24:12.579
start recording. Um, they're meta Oakley glasses and this is

348
00:24:12.619 --> 00:24:16.859
what I record safely on, on the rides. So that

349
00:24:16.900 --> 00:24:18.940
I can actually see you again. Let's put my real

350
00:24:18.960 --> 00:24:23.619
glasses back on. All right. So those glasses are the

351
00:24:23.660 --> 00:24:26.609
gateway to being able to share this with you. And

352
00:24:26.710 --> 00:24:29.289
I am so grateful because I got to wear glasses

353
00:24:29.329 --> 00:24:33.829
when I was four for a good reason. And now

354
00:24:34.150 --> 00:24:38.730
actually fun extra story bonus is that I, you know,

355
00:24:38.789 --> 00:24:42.339
now that I don't drink alcohol and my liver is

356
00:24:42.730 --> 00:24:46.410
almost basically healed and normal and healthy, I'm Most of

357
00:24:46.470 --> 00:24:50.650
my other body parts are aligning as well, including my sight,

358
00:24:50.769 --> 00:24:54.450
which is in better shape now at 41 than it

359
00:24:54.509 --> 00:24:57.789
has ever been as an adult, which is crazy. So

360
00:24:57.890 --> 00:25:03.200
my 2400i that we started with is now seeing almost

361
00:25:03.259 --> 00:25:06.980
healthy normal. She's still a little lazy. She still wanders

362
00:25:07.059 --> 00:25:13.890
off sometimes, but she sees well. And she sees just

363
00:25:13.990 --> 00:25:14.750
that little bit in.

364
00:25:14.710 --> 00:25:15.130
Front of us.

365
00:25:15.750 --> 00:25:17.390
She doesn't see the whole path. She doesn't see the

366
00:25:17.430 --> 00:25:19.809
twists and the turns and the winds and the drops

367
00:25:19.849 --> 00:25:23.210
and all of the things. She can just see the

368
00:25:23.250 --> 00:25:28.420
little bit in front and share it because that's the

369
00:25:28.460 --> 00:25:30.619
reminder for all of us. Quick before we forget, we

370
00:25:30.640 --> 00:25:34.079
don't need to see the whole road or the whole track.

371
00:25:35.200 --> 00:25:41.369
We just need to show up anyway together. I will

372
00:25:41.410 --> 00:25:44.250
see you next time on the road. And I lied.

373
00:25:44.549 --> 00:25:46.630
Oh my gosh, I have to lie twice. Oh, that

374
00:25:46.670 --> 00:25:48.329
was good. That was a good ending, but I'm not,

375
00:25:48.430 --> 00:25:50.670
I can't end there. I had, I had made myself

376
00:25:50.710 --> 00:25:53.430
a promise that I would, oh my gosh, that I

377
00:25:53.470 --> 00:25:57.839
would choose the question for next time. Now it's in

378
00:25:57.900 --> 00:26:03.440
my cup. It's in, oh, well, maybe that one just,

379
00:26:03.599 --> 00:26:07.079
that one just picked the question for me. So thank you, self.

380
00:26:07.279 --> 00:26:09.740
So I, it's, it's in my Taylor Swift cup and

381
00:26:09.779 --> 00:26:14.279
I just, For those on the listening, I just picked

382
00:26:14.299 --> 00:26:21.720
the question for next week, and it is Coach Doc. Okay,

383
00:26:21.740 --> 00:26:23.319
I'll tell you the question, and you're going to have

384
00:26:23.339 --> 00:26:25.200
to come back to hear the answer. So Coach Doc

385
00:26:25.240 --> 00:26:29.720
wants to know, if past Ty, present Ty, and future

386
00:26:29.740 --> 00:26:33.309
Ty were all sitting in a room together, what would

387
00:26:33.329 --> 00:26:38.869
they say? So come back for that next week, friends.

388
00:26:39.660 --> 00:26:41.880
And until then, I will see you next time on

389
00:26:41.940 --> 00:26:53.069
Quick Before I Forget. Much love always. I can't believe

390
00:26:53.109 --> 00:26:55.769
how much I came off the rails there at the end. Sorry,

391
00:26:55.809 --> 00:26:58.549
if you're still here, I love you. Thank you. And

392
00:26:58.569 --> 00:27:02.150
I want to say a special thank you to my sponsor,

393
00:27:02.190 --> 00:27:06.039
not sponsor right now, Zeke's Village Market. I am wearing

394
00:27:06.160 --> 00:27:09.019
one of my favorite shirts from them. It's purple and pretty.

395
00:27:09.099 --> 00:27:13.160
It's like a lilac-y lavender color featuring Sister Bay, which

396
00:27:13.220 --> 00:27:15.970
is a cute town in Door County, Wisconsin. I'm going

397
00:27:16.069 --> 00:27:19.190
to try and probably fail to show you the pack

398
00:27:19.809 --> 00:27:28.880
because it's relevant. And you can see... I hope. I

399
00:27:28.900 --> 00:27:31.579
hope you can see Zeke, the dog who is named,

400
00:27:32.299 --> 00:27:35.329
who is the namesake of the store. He's on the

401
00:27:35.369 --> 00:27:37.349
back of the shirt and then it makes it one

402
00:27:37.369 --> 00:27:40.490
of my favorites. So the designs at Zeke's are really cool.

403
00:27:40.730 --> 00:27:44.799
And Zeke's is paired and partnered up with Guilty Apparel

404
00:27:45.500 --> 00:27:52.809
on a mission to create and sell souvenirs with soul. Okay, now,

405
00:27:52.869 --> 00:27:54.890
but I'm going to be so for real and say

406
00:27:54.930 --> 00:27:56.059
goodbye for real. I love you.

407
00:27:56.079 --> 00:27:56.440
Bye.
