Why do Borderlines and Narcissists Attract? [Ep: 818]

Why do Borderlines and Narcissists Attract? [Ep: 818]

There are real reasons why people with borderline personality disorder, signs and symptoms connect with people who are narcissistic and have narcissistic signs and symptoms. The attraction is very deep-seated and somewhat primal. Primal in the sense that the relationship is fast and furious, the borderline getting wrapped up in the narcissist’s persona. The narcissist feeds the borderline what they want and then the love bombing and constant attention stops and then the intermittent reinforcement begins. If you have ever dated someone with borderline personality disorder and one day they dump you by text, they have found a narcissist that they are enamored by. For many people who have codependent tendencies, if you were in a relationship with someone with borderline tendencies and one day they go silent, there is someone else in their life. A narcissist is very skilled at getting the attention of a borderline, pulling them in, and then playing them to get the borderline to basically beg to keep them. Listen to this podcast to learn why this connection initially looks like it works but how it is a ticking time bomb. These two are the perfect puzzle piece for the most painful relationships.

00:00:01.679 --> 00:00:04.200
You're in a good place. Now you are listening to

2
00:00:04.280 --> 00:00:11.199
Perspectives with Ashley Burger. Welcome back to the Ashley Burgess Podcast.

3
00:00:11.679 --> 00:00:15.800
On today's podcast, we'll be looking into borderline and narcissistic relationships.

4
00:00:16.079 --> 00:00:20.640
Why do people with borderline tendencies get attracted to narcissists?

5
00:00:20.839 --> 00:00:21.879
Why does that happen?

6
00:00:22.399 --> 00:00:24.719
And this is very interesting because I have many clients

7
00:00:24.719 --> 00:00:27.920
who have been in relationships with people with borderline personality

8
00:00:27.920 --> 00:00:32.520
disorder and all of a sudden, one day that relationship ends,

9
00:00:33.039 --> 00:00:35.119
and then they find out later on that this person

10
00:00:35.240 --> 00:00:38.000
is now in this other relationship, and they begin to

11
00:00:38.000 --> 00:00:40.759
find out about this relationship and they realize that this

12
00:00:40.880 --> 00:00:46.359
person is now in a relationship with a complete narcissist.

13
00:00:46.960 --> 00:00:48.600
So let's explain that attraction.

14
00:00:49.200 --> 00:00:51.600
Whether you're listening to this because you have been somebody

15
00:00:51.679 --> 00:00:54.479
that was in the relationship and no longer, whether you

16
00:00:54.640 --> 00:00:59.399
have borderline tendencies or even narcissistic tendencies, Let's talk about

17
00:00:59.439 --> 00:01:03.600
why this relationship seems to happen and why borderlines are

18
00:01:03.640 --> 00:01:07.400
definitely attracted to narcissists and narcissists are attracted to borders.

19
00:01:07.840 --> 00:01:09.719
Let's discuss that today.

20
00:01:10.640 --> 00:01:13.920
The first big reason is that the nature of the

21
00:01:14.040 --> 00:01:20.120
narcissist is to ghost, to go dark, to play games,

22
00:01:20.760 --> 00:01:24.799
to use the silent treatment, and all these things would

23
00:01:24.840 --> 00:01:30.040
make anybody anxious or stressed or triggered. But somebody with

24
00:01:30.120 --> 00:01:33.640
borderline tendencies is going to get over the top anxious

25
00:01:34.599 --> 00:01:39.439
when somebody's been there and given them attention and you've

26
00:01:39.439 --> 00:01:41.200
had a relationship with them, and then all of a

27
00:01:41.239 --> 00:01:44.599
sudden can't be you know, can't be touched as far

28
00:01:44.640 --> 00:01:48.000
as phones not ringing, you text them, they don't respond,

29
00:01:48.640 --> 00:01:50.640
or they seem to go kind of dark for a

30
00:01:50.680 --> 00:01:55.959
few days and then reappear. And that is really discombobulating

31
00:01:56.040 --> 00:01:59.760
for anybody, but especially somebody with borderline tendencies.

32
00:02:00.680 --> 00:02:02.599
And you would think that this would have.

33
00:02:02.680 --> 00:02:05.079
The person running for the hills to get away from

34
00:02:05.120 --> 00:02:10.360
this relationship. However it doesn't. It does the opposite. Somebody

35
00:02:10.360 --> 00:02:13.680
with borderline tendancies is more likely to try to get

36
00:02:13.719 --> 00:02:16.520
the narcissists and try to get their attention and try

37
00:02:16.599 --> 00:02:19.680
to win them back in an effort to get them back,

38
00:02:20.360 --> 00:02:24.560
no matter how bad the behavior is. And that's interesting

39
00:02:24.599 --> 00:02:27.560
because it's almost like the narcissist knows that the borderline

40
00:02:27.599 --> 00:02:30.120
is going to do this it's almost like the narcissist

41
00:02:30.120 --> 00:02:35.000
has a playbook that knows how to get to the

42
00:02:35.039 --> 00:02:41.159
core of the borderline, and so the going dark, the

43
00:02:41.240 --> 00:02:45.000
making plans and then not even saying they're breaking I'm

44
00:02:45.159 --> 00:02:48.439
just not showing up, not following through. I had a

45
00:02:48.479 --> 00:02:50.680
client the other day that was talking about a situation

46
00:02:50.759 --> 00:02:53.919
where they had plans with this person. They were dating

47
00:02:54.039 --> 00:02:56.919
to go on this trip, and they were getting ready

48
00:02:56.919 --> 00:02:59.479
for the trip and everything was good, and then the

49
00:02:59.560 --> 00:03:01.199
day of the trip when they're supposed to go to

50
00:03:01.240 --> 00:03:04.319
the airport together, this person doesn't answer the phone. There's

51
00:03:04.319 --> 00:03:07.719
no communication. My client was calling and calling and there

52
00:03:07.759 --> 00:03:11.240
was nothing there. And so again, it's interesting because most

53
00:03:11.240 --> 00:03:13.000
people would be like, hey, I've had enough of this.

54
00:03:13.560 --> 00:03:16.919
I've been jilted. This is not right. This is really

55
00:03:17.039 --> 00:03:20.280
psychotic behavior. This is a kind of evil behavior. This

56
00:03:20.479 --> 00:03:24.360
is very extreme, self centered behavior. I'm going to get

57
00:03:24.360 --> 00:03:27.199
as far away as I can. Instead, though, a lot

58
00:03:27.280 --> 00:03:29.479
of folks do the opposite, right. They try to figure

59
00:03:29.520 --> 00:03:33.759
out what did I do wrong? What happened here? Why

60
00:03:33.759 --> 00:03:36.280
did this person do this to me? What can I

61
00:03:36.319 --> 00:03:38.479
do to change this? Can I get them back? I

62
00:03:38.520 --> 00:03:42.599
want them back now. It's interesting because you wonder, how

63
00:03:42.599 --> 00:03:45.800
did that create that situation where somebody goes from instead

64
00:03:45.800 --> 00:03:48.360
of standing up for themselves to trying to win this

65
00:03:48.400 --> 00:03:49.039
person back.

66
00:03:49.360 --> 00:03:50.319
Why does that happen?

67
00:03:51.120 --> 00:03:53.599
Well, it's a good question because the reason for that

68
00:03:53.759 --> 00:03:57.800
is the narcissist in the beginning of the relationship creates

69
00:03:57.840 --> 00:04:04.560
this love bombing attention effect. So the narcissist begins with

70
00:04:04.759 --> 00:04:09.560
giving the person with borderline tendencies all this attention, building

71
00:04:09.599 --> 00:04:12.039
them up, talking about how great they are and how

72
00:04:12.080 --> 00:04:18.800
wonderful they are, and making these long term plans probably marriage, family, amazing,

73
00:04:18.879 --> 00:04:23.399
lavish vacations, whatever, and the person with borderline tendencies like, wow,

74
00:04:23.399 --> 00:04:25.279
this is what I want because I have this fear

75
00:04:25.319 --> 00:04:28.040
of abandonment, this fear of being alone, and so this

76
00:04:28.160 --> 00:04:32.000
person has come in and is basically taking away all

77
00:04:32.079 --> 00:04:34.720
my fears and this is going to be the best relationship.

78
00:04:34.759 --> 00:04:37.439
This is going to be a Hollywood looking relationship, and

79
00:04:37.480 --> 00:04:41.399
this is going to last forever. But see, love bombing

80
00:04:41.480 --> 00:04:45.040
is an interesting skill. I believe it's a skill set

81
00:04:45.079 --> 00:04:48.480
because I think that it's a way of manipulating and

82
00:04:48.519 --> 00:04:53.399
controlling other people from the very beginning. Think about it.

83
00:04:53.800 --> 00:04:57.079
If you meet somebody and they seem to have everything

84
00:04:57.120 --> 00:04:59.480
on the ball. They seem to be, you know, charismatic

85
00:04:59.519 --> 00:05:02.600
and cool and fun and good looking, and they're giving

86
00:05:02.600 --> 00:05:06.000
you all this attention and they're there for you, and

87
00:05:06.040 --> 00:05:08.879
they're constantly hanging out with you, and they're building you

88
00:05:09.000 --> 00:05:10.120
up and talking about how.

89
00:05:10.040 --> 00:05:10.839
Great you are.

90
00:05:11.240 --> 00:05:15.040
That feels pretty good. And it happens for several weeks,

91
00:05:15.120 --> 00:05:17.519
even several months, and you get really used to this

92
00:05:17.600 --> 00:05:20.399
and you're like, wow, this is awesome. I'm really liking this,

93
00:05:20.800 --> 00:05:23.000
and then all of a sudden, guess what, boom, I'm

94
00:05:23.000 --> 00:05:25.879
gonna pull the rug just a little bit. And usually

95
00:05:25.920 --> 00:05:28.959
how the rug is pulled is by a period of

96
00:05:29.079 --> 00:05:34.680
the silent treatment or maybe intermit, like a ghosting situation,

97
00:05:34.800 --> 00:05:39.199
where everything's going, well, we're about to do this, and

98
00:05:39.240 --> 00:05:41.120
this person kind of falls off the face of the

99
00:05:41.120 --> 00:05:44.199
earth for twenty four or forty eight hours, which can

100
00:05:44.240 --> 00:05:49.959
put somebody into a real tailspin because this has been

101
00:05:50.000 --> 00:05:51.360
going great for so long.

102
00:05:51.519 --> 00:05:52.839
Now what's happening here.

103
00:05:53.360 --> 00:05:55.959
I've even had clients say, well, I was worried maybe

104
00:05:56.000 --> 00:05:59.439
he's dead, or maybe she's dead, like maybe something bad

105
00:05:59.480 --> 00:06:02.680
happened to her. I started calling the hospitals. Well, no,

106
00:06:02.720 --> 00:06:04.759
nothing bad has happened to them, and know they're not

107
00:06:04.879 --> 00:06:08.000
in the hospital. I know that everybody wants to go

108
00:06:08.040 --> 00:06:10.480
to that extreme thinking, well, there's no way that this

109
00:06:10.560 --> 00:06:14.839
person didn't call me, it must be dead. But in reality,

110
00:06:14.839 --> 00:06:17.839
what's happening here is this person's either monkey branching with

111
00:06:17.920 --> 00:06:22.319
somebody else and they're in a relationship with somebody else

112
00:06:22.360 --> 00:06:24.519
and that other person is getting their attention and they

113
00:06:24.560 --> 00:06:27.920
don't have time for you at that moment, or this

114
00:06:28.079 --> 00:06:34.759
is on purpose, I'm going to purposefully kind of devalue

115
00:06:34.800 --> 00:06:37.759
this person by pulling my attention and then let's see

116
00:06:38.399 --> 00:06:41.560
if what they do. Do they break up, do they

117
00:06:41.600 --> 00:06:44.319
move on, or do they actually take me in with

118
00:06:44.399 --> 00:06:47.319
open arms and not bring it up. And it's interesting

119
00:06:47.399 --> 00:06:50.120
because I've asked clients, why didn't you bring it up?

120
00:06:50.120 --> 00:06:54.240
They're like, well, I didn't bring up the ghosting because

121
00:06:55.680 --> 00:06:58.360
I was worried that if I brought it up, they

122
00:06:58.360 --> 00:07:01.839
would do it again. I've had some clients also say

123
00:07:01.879 --> 00:07:04.160
they brought it up, like the silent treatment or the

124
00:07:04.160 --> 00:07:07.000
ghosting or not returning to calls or text and they

125
00:07:07.000 --> 00:07:10.120
said they did it again, like it was literally like clockwork,

126
00:07:10.199 --> 00:07:11.199
like you know, boom.

127
00:07:11.240 --> 00:07:12.839
They didn't hear from it for another few days.

128
00:07:12.839 --> 00:07:17.879
So they were trained to stop asking the questions, stop

129
00:07:17.920 --> 00:07:23.000
bringing up the dysfunction really quickly in the relationship. And

130
00:07:23.040 --> 00:07:24.879
they did that because they liked how they felt in

131
00:07:24.920 --> 00:07:26.279
the beginning of the relationship.

132
00:07:26.519 --> 00:07:30.279
They liked how they felt, they loved the attention. That's

133
00:07:30.360 --> 00:07:33.360
what they wanted. And so those are the things.

134
00:07:33.160 --> 00:07:36.079
That we need to realize in these relationships because sometimes

135
00:07:36.120 --> 00:07:40.480
from the outside looking in, you don't know the lineage

136
00:07:40.519 --> 00:07:44.399
of the relationship. You don't know the love bombing, you

137
00:07:44.439 --> 00:07:46.560
don't know the beginning, you don't know all the attension

138
00:07:46.759 --> 00:07:48.279
that the person got because the person got a lot

139
00:07:48.279 --> 00:07:52.720
of attention, and then you don't realize how this intermittent

140
00:07:52.839 --> 00:07:59.040
reinforcement works. Because intermittent reinforcement is very interesting and unfortunately

141
00:07:59.079 --> 00:08:03.360
it's used on all laboratory experiments, which is horrible, but

142
00:08:03.399 --> 00:08:09.319
it's used on people intermittent experience and intermittent attention. So

143
00:08:09.399 --> 00:08:14.480
if you think about intermittent attention, intermittent attention is very

144
00:08:14.480 --> 00:08:18.199
interesting because what does that mean. That means on and off? Right,

145
00:08:18.360 --> 00:08:23.439
Intermittent reinforcement means hot and cold. I'm going to treat

146
00:08:23.519 --> 00:08:25.839
you very well, I'm going to be all into you,

147
00:08:26.240 --> 00:08:29.639
giving you all this attention, and then I'm not, and

148
00:08:29.680 --> 00:08:30.879
then I'm going to have extremes.

149
00:08:30.920 --> 00:08:33.559
I'm going to go from this extreme.

150
00:08:33.159 --> 00:08:35.559
Of oh baby, I love you, Oh I love you

151
00:08:35.600 --> 00:08:36.000
so much.

152
00:08:36.080 --> 00:08:38.440
I'm here for you. I'm doing all this stuff too.

153
00:08:39.279 --> 00:08:42.879
I don't return a call, maybe I go all day

154
00:08:43.039 --> 00:08:47.759
without communicating, maybe I go two days without communicating.

155
00:08:48.799 --> 00:08:50.720
Right, So, you think about this.

156
00:08:50.759 --> 00:08:54.960
Type of intermittent reinforcement and you understand that this really

157
00:08:55.080 --> 00:08:59.559
creates an anxious attachment because what happens is as the

158
00:08:59.600 --> 00:09:03.480
other person is going through this intermittent reinforcement, they get

159
00:09:03.639 --> 00:09:08.200
groomed into accepting this, and then the triggers are so

160
00:09:08.399 --> 00:09:11.960
bad when things go cold, that they are waiting on

161
00:09:12.120 --> 00:09:15.559
baited breath for that person to re enter into their life,

162
00:09:16.320 --> 00:09:20.080
even though this person is probably the absolute worst person

163
00:09:20.120 --> 00:09:24.039
they could ever have in their camp. Literally, they've brought

164
00:09:24.480 --> 00:09:28.919
the Antichrist to be in a relationship with. Because a narcissist,

165
00:09:29.519 --> 00:09:36.159
whether covert or malignant or overt, are some of the

166
00:09:36.200 --> 00:09:39.960
most painful people that will ever be in your life

167
00:09:40.240 --> 00:09:43.080
because they will try to make your life a living hell.

168
00:09:43.399 --> 00:09:45.919
They will try to bring you down, cut you down

169
00:09:45.919 --> 00:09:48.799
to size. They will try to do everything to blame

170
00:09:48.840 --> 00:09:51.519
you for their entire life, and then they will try

171
00:09:51.559 --> 00:09:54.000
to use you as a stepping stone to get to

172
00:09:54.080 --> 00:09:55.759
something bigger and better.

173
00:09:57.600 --> 00:09:58.440
It's their matra.

174
00:10:00.159 --> 00:10:03.320
You have met narcissists that seems so sweet and so nice,

175
00:10:03.360 --> 00:10:05.919
and oh they've had such a tough life and all

176
00:10:05.919 --> 00:10:09.600
that stuff. The victim reality of the narcissists is its genius.

177
00:10:11.200 --> 00:10:15.039
The victim reality of the narcissist's genius because they build

178
00:10:15.120 --> 00:10:17.799
up this concept that they're needy or they need help,

179
00:10:17.960 --> 00:10:19.759
or you know, they're just this guy or this girl

180
00:10:19.799 --> 00:10:22.799
that just needs help, when in reality, they're just they're

181
00:10:22.840 --> 00:10:25.759
a vampire. And if you think about the concept of

182
00:10:25.799 --> 00:10:32.080
the narcissist, they literally live off of other people because

183
00:10:33.159 --> 00:10:38.200
they are not fulfilled within. They don't see their value within.

184
00:10:38.320 --> 00:10:41.080
Even the overt narcissists, yes, they have this false sense

185
00:10:41.080 --> 00:10:45.039
of reality. They're in their own narrative, but they try

186
00:10:45.080 --> 00:10:49.240
to take from other people because of their own internal dysfunction.

187
00:10:51.279 --> 00:10:55.120
So think about that. If you think about overt, covert,

188
00:10:55.320 --> 00:10:59.399
and malignant narcissists, it's like a scale, right, you have overt,

189
00:10:59.399 --> 00:11:03.240
covert and lignant narcissism, it gets worse and worse right,

190
00:11:03.600 --> 00:11:07.759
And so the anger and the resentment and the trying

191
00:11:07.799 --> 00:11:11.799
to change you over a period of time becomes their effort,

192
00:11:12.039 --> 00:11:15.639
their work, their body of work, because a narcissist, remember,

193
00:11:15.679 --> 00:11:21.120
a narcissist doesn't choose a weak person. A narcissist chooses

194
00:11:21.519 --> 00:11:25.399
a very powerful person so they can take them down,

195
00:11:25.919 --> 00:11:29.279
break them down, and then have that person as their

196
00:11:29.320 --> 00:11:34.399
disciple so that they can have someone to blame, someone

197
00:11:34.440 --> 00:11:36.840
to take care of them, someone to foot the bill

198
00:11:37.120 --> 00:11:40.240
for as long as possible until that other person wakes

199
00:11:40.320 --> 00:11:44.240
up and realizes what they are in, which is this sucks,

200
00:11:44.320 --> 00:11:46.039
this is a bad situation.

201
00:11:45.639 --> 00:11:46.080
To be in.

202
00:11:47.679 --> 00:11:50.240
But remember it takes the other person to wake up,

203
00:11:50.279 --> 00:11:54.000
because the narcissist is not going to leave the relationship.

204
00:11:54.279 --> 00:11:56.759
And I want to underline that for everybody out there.

205
00:11:56.799 --> 00:12:00.679
So if you have borderline tendencies or even codependent tendencies

206
00:12:00.879 --> 00:12:03.600
and you are in a relationship with a narcissist and

207
00:12:03.639 --> 00:12:06.759
you're hoping that they leave you, I'm gonna tell you

208
00:12:06.919 --> 00:12:11.039
it's probably not gonna happen unless you're with an overt narcissist.

209
00:12:11.039 --> 00:12:13.600
If you're with the covert narcissist, they're not going to

210
00:12:13.720 --> 00:12:15.960
leave you because they want to blame you for the

211
00:12:16.000 --> 00:12:19.000
problems in the relationship. They're the kind of people that

212
00:12:19.080 --> 00:12:22.879
go around talking about how great their dead wife or

213
00:12:22.960 --> 00:12:26.840
husband was. When if you talk to the family of

214
00:12:26.879 --> 00:12:29.519
that deceased person, they tell you about how horrible this

215
00:12:29.559 --> 00:12:33.279
person is, what a horrible narcissists they were, and how

216
00:12:33.399 --> 00:12:36.399
the other person was dying because they were in this relationship. Right,

217
00:12:36.799 --> 00:12:39.600
the truth is not at all the way that they

218
00:12:39.639 --> 00:12:42.480
portray it because they probably put this person in an

219
00:12:42.519 --> 00:12:45.159
early grave because of the pain and suffering that they

220
00:12:45.200 --> 00:12:45.799
put them through.

221
00:12:46.840 --> 00:12:49.440
And I want you to think about that. And so

222
00:12:49.519 --> 00:12:50.519
when you think about.

223
00:12:50.320 --> 00:12:55.159
The intermittent attention and the intermittent reinforcement, it creates somebody

224
00:12:55.200 --> 00:12:57.799
that's in fear of losing this person. So if you

225
00:12:57.919 --> 00:13:02.039
have borderline tendencies and you have fear of abandonment, fear

226
00:13:02.080 --> 00:13:05.320
of being alone, if you have these fears, and usually

227
00:13:05.320 --> 00:13:08.600
that started at an early age, you are going to

228
00:13:08.679 --> 00:13:13.000
try to keep the narcissists around and deal with them

229
00:13:13.080 --> 00:13:15.840
no matter what. So no matter what they're doing, no

230
00:13:15.840 --> 00:13:19.919
matter how they're acting, no matter what they're saying to you,

231
00:13:19.919 --> 00:13:21.480
you will try to override that.

232
00:13:21.679 --> 00:13:24.159
You will try to basically.

233
00:13:23.639 --> 00:13:27.559
Rewrite the narrative to stay in the relationship because you

234
00:13:27.639 --> 00:13:31.039
don't want to be alone. And the interesting part about

235
00:13:31.080 --> 00:13:35.120
being in a relationship with a narcissist is that the narcissists,

236
00:13:35.120 --> 00:13:39.039
remember is the center of attention. They are the center

237
00:13:39.080 --> 00:13:46.039
of attention in the relationship, and they want the full attention. Now, remember,

238
00:13:46.159 --> 00:13:48.600
somebody with borderline tendencies is used to being in a

239
00:13:48.639 --> 00:13:52.360
relationship where they get the full attention, but that's not

240
00:13:52.480 --> 00:13:55.360
going to happen in a relationship with a narcissist. So

241
00:13:55.799 --> 00:13:59.879
it's almost like a game being played where the person

242
00:14:00.039 --> 00:14:03.159
that has borderline tendencies is trying to win over the

243
00:14:03.279 --> 00:14:07.519
narcissists to get the narcissists to focus on them. Problem

244
00:14:07.600 --> 00:14:10.200
is that that's not going to ever happen, so it's

245
00:14:10.240 --> 00:14:13.159
like a game that can never be won. The borderline

246
00:14:13.200 --> 00:14:17.200
is constantly trying to get the narciss's attention, do everything

247
00:14:17.240 --> 00:14:19.759
for the narcissists, be there at their beck and call,

248
00:14:20.080 --> 00:14:23.399
but it still doesn't matter because the narcissist is never

249
00:14:23.480 --> 00:14:26.360
going to praise them for anything. They're actually going to

250
00:14:26.440 --> 00:14:29.879
turn it around and actually find fault in whatever they did,

251
00:14:30.200 --> 00:14:33.200
bringing the borderline back down, cutting them back down to

252
00:14:33.320 --> 00:14:36.519
size and making the borderline have even less self esteem.

253
00:14:38.000 --> 00:14:40.639
And they figure that if you cut someone down to

254
00:14:40.759 --> 00:14:44.080
size enough, they will be so beaten down that they

255
00:14:44.080 --> 00:14:47.559
will never leave, which actually works most of the time.

256
00:14:49.240 --> 00:14:50.519
That's think about it.

257
00:14:50.519 --> 00:14:52.440
It's kind of the matra of how they do it

258
00:14:52.519 --> 00:14:55.679
is they go, Okay, I'm going to keep this person around,

259
00:14:56.200 --> 00:15:00.720
not happy, not peacefully, not calmly. I'm gonna take all

260
00:15:00.759 --> 00:15:02.879
that peace and calm away. I'm going to create a

261
00:15:02.960 --> 00:15:06.279
very anxious attachment. I'm gonna make this person feel kind

262
00:15:06.279 --> 00:15:09.039
of bad about themselves all the time. But guess what,

263
00:15:09.240 --> 00:15:11.799
I'm not leaving because I have this person that's a

264
00:15:11.840 --> 00:15:14.360
minion to me, that's going to take care of.

265
00:15:14.320 --> 00:15:15.879
My every whim that I need.

266
00:15:16.559 --> 00:15:19.840
And I also get supply from them, because remember, the

267
00:15:19.879 --> 00:15:24.480
borderline is perfect supply for the narcissist, because the borderline

268
00:15:24.559 --> 00:15:28.720
keeps giving even when the narcissist is hateful, even when

269
00:15:28.720 --> 00:15:30.960
the narcissists is cutting them down to size, they are

270
00:15:31.000 --> 00:15:33.919
still there. So remember the borderline is perfect supply to

271
00:15:33.960 --> 00:15:38.440
the narcissist because the borderline does not want to be alone,

272
00:15:38.919 --> 00:15:42.080
can't deal with being alone or having any sort of abandonment.

273
00:15:42.360 --> 00:15:46.440
The narcissist fills the void of them being alone, and

274
00:15:46.519 --> 00:15:49.879
so they will continue to deal with the narcissists in

275
00:15:50.080 --> 00:15:52.399
order to make sure that the narcissist.

276
00:15:51.799 --> 00:15:52.879
Doesn't leave them.

277
00:15:53.159 --> 00:15:54.879
And I want you to really think about that, because

278
00:15:54.919 --> 00:15:58.200
that makes the borderline the perfect puzzle piece for the narcissist,

279
00:15:58.440 --> 00:16:01.639
because the narcissists can do out absolutely anything to the borderline,

280
00:16:01.759 --> 00:16:04.000
and the borderline will accept it and continue to go

281
00:16:04.080 --> 00:16:08.399
status quo because they are still trying to fill the void.

282
00:16:08.440 --> 00:16:11.080
They are still trying to right the wrongs. And we'll

283
00:16:11.080 --> 00:16:11.639
talk about this.

284
00:16:11.720 --> 00:16:13.960
Stay tuned to the end of this podcast because the

285
00:16:14.080 --> 00:16:17.600
last observation that I'm going to bring up in today's

286
00:16:17.639 --> 00:16:22.519
episode is the real reason for the background for why

287
00:16:22.559 --> 00:16:27.759
this puzzle piece works so perfectly. It's interesting because our

288
00:16:27.919 --> 00:16:32.600
history does mostly dictate our president in the future until

289
00:16:32.639 --> 00:16:36.919
we wake up and educate ourselves and move forward and

290
00:16:37.000 --> 00:16:40.080
realize how we are focusing on things and how we're

291
00:16:40.240 --> 00:16:44.639
letting certain things define our life. So go back to

292
00:16:44.679 --> 00:16:48.919
the concept of the narcissist being the center of attention. Okay,

293
00:16:49.000 --> 00:16:52.720
so we get that even if the narcissist is covert,

294
00:16:53.320 --> 00:16:57.840
they're still getting center of attention. Covertly, there's still the victim,

295
00:16:57.960 --> 00:17:01.279
or maybe they're sick all the time, right or you know,

296
00:17:01.399 --> 00:17:04.319
maybe things aren't working out for them, or you know,

297
00:17:04.359 --> 00:17:07.599
they have an addiction problem, and so you're constantly carry

298
00:17:07.640 --> 00:17:11.160
during to their alcohol addiction or drug addiction. Maybe they

299
00:17:11.200 --> 00:17:13.720
just can't get a job, really haven't tried, but you know,

300
00:17:13.759 --> 00:17:16.400
maybe they haven't, and so you're catering to that and

301
00:17:16.440 --> 00:17:17.079
their issues.

302
00:17:17.279 --> 00:17:18.640
So it's constantly and so.

303
00:17:18.599 --> 00:17:21.759
If the borderline or even the codependent is constantly catering

304
00:17:21.759 --> 00:17:25.039
to the narcissist needs, even if the covert narcissist that's

305
00:17:25.440 --> 00:17:29.319
always has a problem, an ailment, an issue. And it's

306
00:17:29.400 --> 00:17:33.839
interesting too how the covert narcissist is only nice usually

307
00:17:33.880 --> 00:17:38.240
when they're sick. So a covert narcissist is only nice

308
00:17:38.279 --> 00:17:41.559
to people in a relationship when they are sick, like

309
00:17:41.680 --> 00:17:44.599
really sick, because they need that person, They have to

310
00:17:44.599 --> 00:17:46.480
have that person because that's the only person around to

311
00:17:46.519 --> 00:17:49.039
take care of them. But right when they're fine again,

312
00:17:49.400 --> 00:17:52.119
they're just as mean as they've ever been. And this

313
00:17:52.240 --> 00:17:54.920
is critical to understand because that means that they are

314
00:17:55.039 --> 00:17:58.599
actually just taking advantage of you. That is it that

315
00:17:58.759 --> 00:18:01.279
is the role of the relationship. That is exactly why

316
00:18:01.319 --> 00:18:04.640
they're taking advantage of you, is because they need you. Now,

317
00:18:04.680 --> 00:18:07.680
the thing about these relationships is the narcissists will go

318
00:18:07.759 --> 00:18:11.319
to great links to get the borderline or the code

319
00:18:11.359 --> 00:18:14.920
of pendant to not realize that they're needed. So what

320
00:18:14.960 --> 00:18:19.559
I'm saying is the covert narcissists and the malignant narcissists,

321
00:18:19.559 --> 00:18:21.920
and for that matter, the overt narcissists will go to

322
00:18:22.039 --> 00:18:24.920
great links to get the other person to think that

323
00:18:25.000 --> 00:18:28.440
they're not that special, they're not that interesting, they're not needed,

324
00:18:28.960 --> 00:18:32.839
which is just the opposite of reality. The narcissist needs

325
00:18:32.880 --> 00:18:37.559
the other person because they need supply, whether it's emotional supply,

326
00:18:37.880 --> 00:18:41.559
financial supply, whatever that supply is, they need it, but

327
00:18:41.599 --> 00:18:45.160
they want to downgrade the supply so the supply believes

328
00:18:45.359 --> 00:18:49.359
that they need the narcissists see the game. This is

329
00:18:49.359 --> 00:18:53.200
a game, and it's done quite well. I mean, it's

330
00:18:53.240 --> 00:18:56.119
really good. How they kind of turn things around and

331
00:18:56.119 --> 00:18:58.599
they turn the tables around and they make you think

332
00:18:58.640 --> 00:19:01.519
a certain way because they are actually.

333
00:19:01.160 --> 00:19:03.599
Needing you, but they want you to think the opposite.

334
00:19:03.680 --> 00:19:06.240
Right, So that's another reason why the borderline holds on

335
00:19:06.720 --> 00:19:09.839
is the borderline begins to believe that they need the narcissists,

336
00:19:09.880 --> 00:19:13.599
they believe if I lose this person, I'm gonna lose everything.

337
00:19:13.720 --> 00:19:16.880
I gotta hold on. This person's my future. I gotta

338
00:19:16.920 --> 00:19:20.440
hold on, when in reality that is not the case. Okay,

339
00:19:20.599 --> 00:19:23.359
So it's interesting. It's like it's like you having like

340
00:19:23.440 --> 00:19:27.319
a bar of gold, right, nine nine nine gold, and

341
00:19:27.400 --> 00:19:30.039
somebody's saying, yeah, that's worthless. That's what's worth nothing. You

342
00:19:30.119 --> 00:19:32.079
got nothing there, there's nothing there. It's not it's not

343
00:19:32.119 --> 00:19:34.720
there's no value, and you begin to believe there's no value.

344
00:19:34.720 --> 00:19:38.359
You're like, well, there's no no value here. You want it? Okay.

345
00:19:38.680 --> 00:19:41.359
You can talk somebody into believing that they don't have value.

346
00:19:41.400 --> 00:19:43.680
You can talk somebody into believing that you are more

347
00:19:43.759 --> 00:19:46.400
valuable than them. And that is what a narcissist does.

348
00:19:46.640 --> 00:19:49.519
In a relationship with a borderline or codependent. They tell

349
00:19:49.559 --> 00:19:52.119
the borderline or the code of pendant all these things

350
00:19:52.160 --> 00:19:54.680
making them feel like they're just not even good enough,

351
00:19:54.960 --> 00:19:57.160
and then they just hold on with grim death with

352
00:19:57.200 --> 00:20:02.039
this relationship. And it's interesting because they can play in

353
00:20:02.039 --> 00:20:06.160
the game so well. They're very good because remember in

354
00:20:06.200 --> 00:20:09.400
the beginning, they set the scene that they were in love.

355
00:20:09.640 --> 00:20:11.720
They set the scene with the fact that, oh, I

356
00:20:11.799 --> 00:20:13.519
love you so much and you're the best thing in

357
00:20:13.519 --> 00:20:15.440
the world, and I love how you look and how

358
00:20:15.440 --> 00:20:17.319
you dress and who you are, and I love all

359
00:20:17.359 --> 00:20:20.039
the you know, just how outgoing you are and how

360
00:20:20.079 --> 00:20:23.039
intelligent you are. And so the other person, you know,

361
00:20:23.160 --> 00:20:25.720
is like, Wow, this feels so good and it's great,

362
00:20:25.720 --> 00:20:28.920
but they don't realize that this is not real. This

363
00:20:29.000 --> 00:20:31.319
part of the relationship is a facade.

364
00:20:32.240 --> 00:20:32.599
Okay.

365
00:20:32.799 --> 00:20:36.039
It is a facade created to make you feel a

366
00:20:36.079 --> 00:20:39.200
certain way, and it's a facade to get into your life.

367
00:20:39.240 --> 00:20:42.160
It's a facade to make you allow open the doors.

368
00:20:42.200 --> 00:20:44.480
The doors to the castle are open. Please come in.

369
00:20:44.759 --> 00:20:47.400
There's orders, and there's champagne. Come on in.

370
00:20:47.759 --> 00:20:51.759
And you do this not even realizing that you've given

371
00:20:51.799 --> 00:20:55.480
the keys to the castle to an extreme narcissist that

372
00:20:55.599 --> 00:20:58.559
is going to eventually lock you out of your own castle.

373
00:20:59.000 --> 00:21:01.160
Okay, this is how our it's like.

374
00:21:01.279 --> 00:21:03.000
It's like you're like, you're letting them in and then

375
00:21:03.039 --> 00:21:05.319
guess what they're going to like beat you over the

376
00:21:05.359 --> 00:21:08.160
head with it over a period of time. Now, it's

377
00:21:08.240 --> 00:21:12.839
interesting because, like I said before, the narcissist is the

378
00:21:12.839 --> 00:21:16.400
center of their attention, the center of their world. Now,

379
00:21:16.440 --> 00:21:19.799
the borderline wants to get the narcissists full attention, but

380
00:21:19.920 --> 00:21:24.000
that's never going to happen. That's never going to happen

381
00:21:25.359 --> 00:21:27.000
because the narcissist is going to.

382
00:21:27.000 --> 00:21:30.960
Have multiple sources of supply everywhere.

383
00:21:32.079 --> 00:21:35.400
And even if they don't really have like direct supply,

384
00:21:35.839 --> 00:21:38.799
like people waiting in the wings, and you know, other

385
00:21:38.839 --> 00:21:41.240
people that they talk to, communicate with and hang out with,

386
00:21:41.559 --> 00:21:44.519
it could be on social media. And you know, remember,

387
00:21:44.599 --> 00:21:48.279
narcissists have that grandiose like thought process. Even the covert

388
00:21:48.440 --> 00:21:52.680
believe that they're better than everybody else. So remember they

389
00:21:52.720 --> 00:21:55.319
think that, oh I have all this attention, and oh

390
00:21:55.400 --> 00:21:57.640
I have all this going on, and I'm so wonderful

391
00:21:57.680 --> 00:21:59.759
and I'm so great, and so they reach out a

392
00:21:59.759 --> 00:22:02.920
lot on social media, hang out and communicate with people

393
00:22:03.000 --> 00:22:07.039
and have those conversations, thinking that this is also their supply.

394
00:22:08.640 --> 00:22:10.200
Now, the last thing that I want to bring.

395
00:22:10.079 --> 00:22:15.240
Out, which is the biggest part of this entire podcast today,

396
00:22:15.960 --> 00:22:20.160
is the reason for why this is happening. The reason

397
00:22:20.319 --> 00:22:23.160
for why this is happening, And this is what I

398
00:22:23.200 --> 00:22:25.559
want you to think about because this is the big

399
00:22:26.319 --> 00:22:27.079
This is the big.

400
00:22:26.920 --> 00:22:31.480
Ancelada, the parental dynamics.

401
00:22:31.640 --> 00:22:37.400
When the borderline or the codependant was being raised, usually

402
00:22:37.400 --> 00:22:40.160
what happened is they had a narcissistic parent dynamic, either

403
00:22:40.240 --> 00:22:43.599
mom or dad who was narcissistic, and they were raised

404
00:22:43.640 --> 00:22:47.960
in this narcissistic relationship and they tried and struggled so

405
00:22:48.119 --> 00:22:51.400
hard to get the narcissist attention and they could never

406
00:22:51.440 --> 00:22:54.759
get that attention. They can never win over that narcissistic parent,

407
00:22:55.480 --> 00:22:57.440
and they kept trying and trying, but they were never

408
00:22:57.519 --> 00:22:59.759
good enough. They could never succeed enough. They could never

409
00:22:59.799 --> 00:23:03.599
get enough awards or alcolades enough. So they gets kept

410
00:23:03.640 --> 00:23:05.640
trying and trying to trying, but they can never win.

411
00:23:06.720 --> 00:23:10.759
They could never get that love. They could never get

412
00:23:10.759 --> 00:23:14.240
that attention. So you think about it when somebody is

413
00:23:14.319 --> 00:23:17.920
raised with a narcissistic parent and that parent never gave

414
00:23:17.960 --> 00:23:22.160
them attention, never was there for them, was not listening

415
00:23:22.200 --> 00:23:25.880
to them. What happens here is you have this situation

416
00:23:26.079 --> 00:23:28.519
as the person gets older and older where this is

417
00:23:28.559 --> 00:23:32.799
a huge trigger, and that's what makes people subsceptible to

418
00:23:32.839 --> 00:23:35.920
getting a relationships with other narcissists. First because it's commonplace

419
00:23:35.960 --> 00:23:37.400
you know it. I mean, your mom or dad was

420
00:23:37.400 --> 00:23:40.319
a narcissist. This seems really, really, really natural to be

421
00:23:40.359 --> 00:23:44.480
in this relationship too. It's like you're trying to right

422
00:23:44.559 --> 00:23:47.759
the wrongs from your childhood. When a borderline or code

423
00:23:47.799 --> 00:23:50.920
of pennant gets into a relationship with a narcissist, it's

424
00:23:50.960 --> 00:23:53.160
almost like they're trying to right the wrongs of their

425
00:23:53.279 --> 00:23:56.720
childhood because mom or dad was a narcissist that never

426
00:23:56.799 --> 00:23:59.599
gave them the attention that they deserve, never gave them

427
00:23:59.599 --> 00:24:02.160
the love that they deserve. It was never really there

428
00:24:02.240 --> 00:24:06.000
for them. That's key. That's the reason for the entire

429
00:24:06.160 --> 00:24:09.680
puzzle piece being perfect is because of this. It is

430
00:24:09.720 --> 00:24:12.039
not a perfect relationship. And this is a relationship based

431
00:24:12.039 --> 00:24:15.279
on trauma. This is a trauma based relationship. This is

432
00:24:15.319 --> 00:24:18.920
a toxic, trauma based relationship that is going to go

433
00:24:19.039 --> 00:24:22.920
nowhere except for making other people's lives insane. The borderline

434
00:24:22.920 --> 00:24:25.640
of the code of pendant is going to be overwhelmed

435
00:24:25.720 --> 00:24:30.559
with the amount of stress and anxiety. The narcissist is

436
00:24:30.559 --> 00:24:33.759
going to continue to blame and shame because they are

437
00:24:33.880 --> 00:24:37.079
just full of shame themselves. But they don't want to

438
00:24:37.119 --> 00:24:39.440
see that because they are a shell of a person

439
00:24:39.799 --> 00:24:43.279
with absolute no emotional eque. They don't get it. They're

440
00:24:43.319 --> 00:24:46.119
not even on the same plane. Okay, so you have

441
00:24:46.240 --> 00:24:49.240
these issues, and yes they have their childhood traumas for sure,

442
00:24:49.960 --> 00:24:52.759
but we're not talking about that in today's podcast. We're

443
00:24:52.799 --> 00:24:56.359
talking about the struggle when somebody with borderline or even

444
00:24:56.359 --> 00:24:59.240
codependent tendencies or borderline and codependit tendencies get in a

445
00:24:59.279 --> 00:25:03.240
relationship with a narcissists. This is truly happening more often

446
00:25:03.279 --> 00:25:05.720
than you know. And I'm sure you have friends and

447
00:25:05.759 --> 00:25:08.240
family that are in these relationships and you're like, just

448
00:25:08.279 --> 00:25:10.359
get out. But the reason why they just can't get

449
00:25:10.400 --> 00:25:13.119
out is because of what I'm talking about here. It's

450
00:25:13.119 --> 00:25:16.240
not about necessarily getting out of just this relationship. It's

451
00:25:16.279 --> 00:25:19.920
about getting out of the past relationship. It's about overcoming

452
00:25:19.960 --> 00:25:22.720
the pain and suffering from their childhood. There's a lot

453
00:25:22.759 --> 00:25:25.599
of things going on, and so that's why I recommend

454
00:25:25.640 --> 00:25:29.640
coaching or therapy or both, is like really getting in

455
00:25:29.680 --> 00:25:32.319
and understanding feelings and emotions and why did I choose

456
00:25:32.319 --> 00:25:35.039
this relationship? But looking at the truth, it's not this

457
00:25:35.200 --> 00:25:39.480
person that you chose, it's this pathology. Because remember when

458
00:25:39.519 --> 00:25:43.160
a borderline chooses a narcissist. Usually it's because of familiarity

459
00:25:43.599 --> 00:25:47.119
of a family dynamic. This is very powerful, but also

460
00:25:47.200 --> 00:25:49.799
this is not based on love. This is based on

461
00:25:49.880 --> 00:25:54.400
trauma and unresolved issues. And so once we begin to

462
00:25:54.440 --> 00:25:57.599
see the honest truth about the relationship, we can then

463
00:25:57.680 --> 00:26:00.559
begin to understand how to take it apart or how

464
00:26:00.599 --> 00:26:02.880
to successfully get out of it, and how to understand

465
00:26:02.880 --> 00:26:05.799
why we want to get out of it. Until then,

466
00:26:06.240 --> 00:26:08.200
the borderline of the codependit is not going to get

467
00:26:08.240 --> 00:26:12.240
it until they see the truth of where this started from,

468
00:26:12.279 --> 00:26:16.160
where this originated from, where this pattern began. Until they

469
00:26:16.200 --> 00:26:19.559
see that, they can't see the difference between like this

470
00:26:19.640 --> 00:26:23.680
person and love and a trauma bond situation, because once

471
00:26:23.720 --> 00:26:27.559
you realize it's a trauma bond, this relationship becomes quite weak.

472
00:26:29.400 --> 00:26:32.680
It weakens the concept, it weakens the connection because this

473
00:26:32.720 --> 00:26:36.720
is based on trauma. This isn't based on love, and

474
00:26:36.759 --> 00:26:39.920
the beginning was not real either. So if the beginning

475
00:26:40.000 --> 00:26:43.359
was not real, what do we really have here? We

476
00:26:43.440 --> 00:26:46.799
have a sham. We have somebody trying to get into

477
00:26:46.839 --> 00:26:51.079
your life and trying to literally abuse you. And then

478
00:26:51.160 --> 00:26:53.359
you have someone that is trying to literally abuse you

479
00:26:53.400 --> 00:26:56.119
from past abuse that you've had, and then you're trying

480
00:26:56.160 --> 00:26:59.079
to cater to this person and give them everything while

481
00:26:59.119 --> 00:27:01.759
this person is blame you for anything that goes wrong

482
00:27:01.799 --> 00:27:02.480
in their life.

483
00:27:03.039 --> 00:27:03.200
HM.

484
00:27:04.640 --> 00:27:06.279
That's what I want us to think about. And if

485
00:27:06.319 --> 00:27:09.240
you are in a relationship with a narcissist and you

486
00:27:09.359 --> 00:27:12.960

this relationship specifically, and if you are a friend or

a family member, this may help you understand the concept

497
00:27:43.720 --> 00:27:45.559
of this because it's not just easy to jump out

498
00:27:45.559 --> 00:27:47.480
of these relationships because.

499
00:27:47.160 --> 00:27:48.880
They actually hit you at your core.

500
00:27:50.200 --> 00:27:53.400
They hit you at your core, at your trauma core

501
00:27:53.480 --> 00:27:56.720
as a childhood trauma from most most of these relationships.

502
00:27:56.759 --> 00:27:59.960
This is what this is reliving childhood trauma based on

503
00:28:00.160 --> 00:28:04.880
a narcissistic parent that wasn't there for them, and this

504
00:28:04.960 --> 00:28:08.240
is deep. But if we can overcome this and override this,

505
00:28:08.279 --> 00:28:12.559
which you can, it gives you great comfort, It gives

506
00:28:12.559 --> 00:28:15.640
you awareness, and it gets you independence and freedom from

507
00:28:15.640 --> 00:28:16.359
the situation.

508
00:28:17.119 --> 00:28:18.759

512
00:28:29.240 --> 00:28:32.160
this is very important to enlighten ourselves and educate ourselves

513
00:28:32.200 --> 00:28:35.720
at every moment. Every chance we had to educate ourselves

514
00:28:36.200 --> 00:28:39.200
is an amazing moment in time. And if we can

515
00:28:39.359 --> 00:28:44.319
educate ourselves out of trauma and into soul freedom, we

516
00:28:44.359 --> 00:28:46.160
are now on a better path in our life.

517

524
00:29:02.240 --> 00:29:04.559
Don't forget to live your true life.

525
00:29:04.759 --> 00:29:07.119
And the only way to live your true life is

526
00:29:07.160 --> 00:29:10.839
to educate yourself and understand why you're doing things, why

527
00:29:10.839 --> 00:29:14.160
you're making these choices, and asking yourself is this choice

528
00:29:14.160 --> 00:29:14.640
good for me?

529
00:29:15.119 --> 00:29:16.000
Is it healthy for me?

530
00:29:16.359 --> 00:29:18.920
And is this going to move my life forward in

531
00:29:18.920 --> 00:29:21.160
a successful way? And if it's not, it's time to

532
00:29:21.240 --> 00:29:23.599
back up and look at the situation clearly.

533
00:29:24.799 --> 00:29:26.279
Oh right,
