Can creators still monetize in the age of AI slop, synthetic video, and YouTube’s new AI labeling rules?

In this LIVE episode 669 TONIGHT (June 3rd at 6 pm EST/3 pm PST) of The New Media Show, Rob Greenlee is joined by longtime podcasting and new media creator platform expert Rob Walch for a timely conversation about video, AI-generated content, YouTube’s AI disclosure rules, and what all of it means for creator monetization.

YouTube now requires creators to disclose content that is realistically AI-generated or meaningfully AI-altered, and the platform may automatically apply AI labels using internal detection systems, C2PA metadata, and signals from YouTube’s own AI tools. YouTube also says that AI disclosure alone does not limit monetization eligibility, but repetitive, mass-produced, or inauthentic content remains a monetization risk.

Rob Greenlee and Rob Walch discuss what separates useful AI-assisted production from low-effort “AI slop,” why video is becoming central to creator growth, how podcasters should think about YouTube, and whether trusted human creators may become more valuable as platforms fill with synthetic content.
This conversation explores the future of podcasting, video, AI content, audience trust, platform control, RSS, creator monetization, and the changing economics of online media.
